Qualifications:
 
• Current license in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse
• School Service Personnel Certificate - Type 73
• Holds or agree to obtain a current certification as a vision and hearing screener
• Working knowledge of public school rules and regulations
• Membership and involvement in professional organizations preferred
• Experience with needs and special services of special education students  (working knowledge of Individualized Education Programs and ability to write the health component) 
 

Responsibilities:
 
• Conducts and/or supervises school health screenings
• Assumes responsibility for identification and referral of students in need of medical and dental care
• Consults with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on school health matters
• Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students
• Observes students to detect health needs
• Supervises the care given a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness while under the jurisdiction of the school
• Visits student homes when necessary
• Participates with administration and school staff in developing and implementing a total school health program
• Assists in the development and maintenance of school health policy
• Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students
• Prepares and submits health data and reports as required
• Advises on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
• Provides inservice and advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding teacher observation skills for student health problems, communicable diseases and special health needs of students
• Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools
• Assists in health instruction, family education and other health topics in each assigned school building
• Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum
• Provides ongoing training, planning and supervision of health aide activities
• Administers and/or monitors any medical treatment and/or medication given to students while attending school
• Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the administration
