Works cooperatively with school personnel to establish and accomplish the goals and objectives of the speech program.
Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other school personnel.
Maintains confidential records of the speech-language program and prepares reports as required.
Maintains current files and data for program planning and decision making for students, including procedural documentation.
Participates as a team member with responsibility for the identification, eligibility, and placement of speech and language students
Develops appropriate IEP goals based on students’ strengths and needs.
Selects and implements evidence-based practices which support the goals and objectives of the speech and language program.
Can apply skills in norm and criterion referenced evaluation, learning strategies, language, speech, and communication to professional responsibilities
Assesses students’ communication skills for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining program eligibility, and developing recommendations for treatment.
Conducts speech and language screenings and/or classroom observations according to best practice to determine the need of interventions and/or speech/language evaluation. Conduct speech screenings for potential referral to special education assessment for determination of eligibility
Provides speech and language therapy to students for the purpose of minimizing adverse effects of speech and language disorders on student success.
Provides research based interventions as appropriate as a component of the RtI process.
Implements the service delivery model most appropriate to the students’ degree of impairment and provides activities commensurate with students’ interests and aptitudes.
Modifies therapeutic and instructional approaches from data gathered during therapy.
Provides speech and language services in accordance with Individual Service Plans (ISP) at two Lockport parochial schools.
Professional Responsibilities
Provides consultation to parents, teachers and other appropriate school personnel and delivers training as needed
Seeks the assistance of teachers, parents and others to meet the communication needs of students.
Consults/communicates with non-school agencies to enhance services.
Manages time efficiently and meets accepted standards of professional behavior.
Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities related to speech-language-hearing and education (i.e. participates in professional meetings/conferences, reviews current speech, language, and hearing literature, and applies knowledge gained from continuing education, etc.)
Demonstrate the ability to perform activities that utilize multiple communication and technology systems (web -based IEP system, Google suite, tech devices, smart boards, ipads, document cameras, desktop programs, etc)
Observes all Lockport District 91 policies and procedures and participates in the district community.
The therapist exhibits professionalism and commitment through punctuality and attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
