    Summary: To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.

    Salary Schedule: $85.00 a day for high school diploma/college degree, $110.00 a day for active certified teacher in any school district, $125.00 a day for retired teacher from Washington County Schools. This position is paid monthly.

    Education and Experiences:
    • Not less than a high school degree or general equivalency diploma (GED)
    • Strong verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
    • Meets the necessary heath and physical qualifications

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
    • Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building;
    • Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day;
    • Maintains to the full extent possible to the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned;
    • Teaches the material outlined in the lesson plans that are provided by regular teacher or as directed by the building principal, department head, or team leader;
    • Consults as needed, with the building principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plan provided or the Substitute Teacher Handbook;
    • Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class, during lunch, and recess periods;
    • Reports in writing, on the form provided by the school secretary, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching; and
    • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Physical Demand:

    This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 50 lbs., or the weight of an average child, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.  Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

    • VerbalAbility to understand meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
    • Numerical:  Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
    • Manual DexterityAbility to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers rapidly and accurately.
    •  Form perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.   
    • Color Discrimination:  Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors shades or other values of the same color.

    Normal working environment.
