BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Implement the program curriculum (Curiosity Corner) with fidelity.
2. Adjust instruction to respond to individual learning needs.
3. Monitor the developmental progress of all students, according to current Kansas Early Learning Standards and monitoring progress towards IEP goals.
4. Gather data as required by KSDE Grants funding the program
5. Collaborate with Itinerant ESS staff, English Language Learner staff, Family Services Worker and other support staff, according to the needs of the children and families and the program.
6. Participate in staff, department, committee and team meetings, assist in early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
7. Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the Principal and/or the Director of Elementary Education
8. Keep informed regarding new technologies that facilitate and support student learning.
9. Communicate clearly and accurately with administrators, staff, parents, students and support agencies.
10. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state, and federal laws.

Title:  Instructional Assistant
 
Purpose Statement
The job of Instructional Assistant is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students; and providing clerical support to teacher/s and staff.
 
This job reports to School Principal.
 
Essential Functions
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g. worksheets, projects, teaching aids, etc.) for supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
• Administer a variety of instructional activities (e.g. tests, homework assignments, make-up work, paper grading, etc.) for supporting instructors in the classroom.
• Assist students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. provide writing assistance, reinforce lessons, facilitate activities, use computer learning programs, etc.) for practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
• Attend meetings and in-service presentations for acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
• Communicate with teachers and/or parents for assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
• Implements instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of assigned teacher for presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
• Maintain instructional and student records (e.g. student assignments, portfolios, assessments, etc.) for providing accurate, documented progress in student learning.
• Maintain instructional areas, equipment and supplies for ensuring availability of items and providing a safe learning environment.
• Monitor individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, lab settings, field trips, library, meal areas, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Provide direct instructional services to students under the supervision of the assigned classroom teacher (e.g. small group work, individual instruction, supervision of testing, monitoring progress, etc.) for presenting and supporting learning outcomes.
• Report observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.
• Respond to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. 
Other Functions
• Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. 
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and adhering to safety practices and procedures.
 
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.  Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include concepts of grammar and punctuation; basic math; stages of child development and learning styles; and age appropriate activities.
 
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Title: Lunchroom-Playground Aide
 
Purpose Statement
The job of Lunchroom-Playground Aide is done for the purpose/s of performing non-classroom supervision duties, in the cafeteria, indoor assembly areas, outdoor eating areas, halls and restrooms and on the playground.
 
This job reports to Assigned Supervisor.
 
Essential Functions
• Follow outlined behavior support plan and reports recurring behavioral problems and/or safety hazards to teachers or other designated school staff for maintaining a safe school environment.
• Monitor students during meal periods and on the playground for maintaining acceptable behavioral standards at meals and playtime and encouraging students' participation in games and other activities.
• Promote standards of courtesy and behavior expected of students (e.g. at mealtimes and during play periods, etc.) for maintaining a school environment conducive to social and academic learning.
• Provide supervision and direction to students during meals and playtime for ensuring a safe mealtime and playtime environment is maintained.
• Respond to emergency situations (e.g. injured students, student disputes, etc.) for resolving immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources for resolving issues, providing information and/or direction to other sources.
