Note: This is a 10-Month Work Contract, working August – May of the school year.
Description:
Provide prospective students counsel and advisement to assist them in selecting appropriate career technical programs consistent with their aptitude and interests and provide current students with personal, academic, financial and emotional counsel to support their successful completion of their selected programs and transition into the workplace or higher education.
Essential Functions:
- Recruit and interview prospective students from sending high schools to assess their interests in career technical programs and assure appropriate placement; assist in the enrollment of students into programs.
- Provide individualized academic and behavioral counseling to students and referral to other agencies / resources if required, regarding issues in career/education choices, academic attendance and achievement, personal / emotional / relationship issues, special needs, financial matters which support their completion of their educational program and successful post-school activity.
- Support Campus Administration with student discipline in accordance with school policies and participate in parent/student/sending school conferences as needed to support student retention and program completion.
- Continuously monitor student achievement indicators and collaborate with campus administration, student services representatives, instructors, and sending school counselors, as appropriate, to implement appropriate intervention measures to effect maximum student retention and program completion.
- Represent the school and the campus programs through attendance and speaking engagements at personal, school, community and business activities and events, communicating a message that reinforces the District Core Values and provides positive public relations for the campus, the District administration and the CareerTech system.
- Attend various staff and committee meetings as well as Advisory Committee meetings to assure alignment of campus counseling activities with District objectives and CareerTech initiatives.
- Organize and/or coordinate miscellaneous projects/assignments in support of the Campus Director, as assigned, which might include activities such as: coordinating campus tours for community, companies and prospective students, monitoring student activity in assigned duty area, coordinate CTSO activities, participating in campus open houses, etc.
- Provide the highest level of customer service to numerous internal and external customers by responding to requests for information, research, reports and communication regarding various campus programs and matters.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making decisions regarding the provision of services to internal and external customers and in day-to-day operations of the department. Interpret and implement policies in a manner consistent with the interests of the District. Provide advice and consultation to executive management as requested. Investigate and resolve issues as needed, represent the department and District in a professional manner to all.
- Perform tasks and duties relevant to any of various roles or responsibilities assigned by supervisor and determined by management to be appropriate for this position; comply with all policy, procedure, regulation and other communicated requirements as may be in effect for the workgroup or worksite.
Job Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in student counseling in a public school setting, both career guidance and personal / behavioral issues. Experience in teaching helpful.
- Must have knowledge of high school graduation requirements, higher education requirements, and technical education standards.
- Personal and crisis counseling
- Knowledge in working with special needs students
- Valid State Issued Driver's License
Education:
- Masters Degree in School Counseling, Psychology or Social Work is required
- OSDE Certified Secondary School Counselor is required
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) preferred
- Educational Administration Certification helpful, not required
- CPR and First Aid training are preferred
Salary Schedule:
10 Month Instructor
Hiring Range:
$66,182 to $71,099 annually dependent on experience and education, plus additional $9,000 compensation for salary-in-lieu of dependent benefit coverage.
