    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

     

    To provide student-centered, thematically-based, and literature-rich instruction in the classroom that meets district standards and benchmarks.  Said instruction should focus on engaging students in concept/theme-based, meaningful activities to ensure they master oral language proficiency. Provide support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group an individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

    • Plans, develops, and utilizes a variety of instructional materials appropriate to support the learning of students from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

    • Is dedicated to student academic achievement and social emotional growth for ALL students. 

    • Is dedicated to implementing teaching practices that focus on student engagement and student growth.

    • Individualizes and adapts educational processes and procedures to enhance the student learning.

    • Provides whole group, small group, and individual instruction to students, and effectively utilizes the time available for instructional activities.

    • Maintains appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement

    • Embeds social emotional learning opportunities for students.

    • Present complex concepts in instructional and investigational settings.

    • Proficient in instructional technology and has experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) and teaching in a one to one computer teaching and learning environment. 

    • Administers and develops subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.

    • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student's achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.

    • Assesses student progress towards learning targets, objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration. 

    • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan. Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance, health status, appropriate behavior, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.

    • Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addressing individual student requirements. 

    • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students. 

    • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study. 

    • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment. 

    • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. 

    • Participates in a variety of duties such as supervisory duties, participation on school committees, meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and to improve student achievement. 

    • Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.

    • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state law and board policies. 

    • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. 

    • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, students, central office staff, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction. 

    • Supports other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.

    • Other duties as assigned.


    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

     
    • Bachelors or Masters degree in English Education

    • Wyoming Teacher Certification with an English 6-12 Endorsement, required. (Applicants must have or be able to obtain a teaching certificate issued by the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (http://ptsb.state.wy.us)

     

    The School District places employees on salary schedules on the basis of:

     
    1. Wyoming experience.

    2. Out-of-state experience up to 7 years.

    3. Degree – Bachelor's, Masters, or Doctorate.

    4. Semester Graduate Credits beyond Degree. 

     

    Salary pending approval of the 25/26 Compensation Package; 24/25 Compensation package can be found here   

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

     

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit on the floor depending on the age of the children. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. 0 - 12 feet and on occasion up to 20 feet, such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person, may need to lift arms to write on chalk or marking board and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch and reach 0 - 24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material,the ability to adjust focus, and exposure to screen(s) via technology. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. 

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

     

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is normally low to moderate but may become loud when large groups are together in a room. The employee may be required to move from room to room to provide instruction and may have to maneuver in crowded hallways. Duties are typically performed indoors and occasionally outdoors, such as playground duty or when students are boarding or unloading buses. The employee may be exposed to unpredictable weather conditions. This position is typically performed in a hazard free, clean, and healthy environment.
