POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Principal supports the school principal in the overall administration of a dual language immersion program, ensuring high-quality instruction in both English and Spanish. This role involves leadership in curriculum development, staff supervision, student discipline, school improvement, and public relations, as well as overseeing the maintenance of school facilities. The Assistant Principal fosters a culturally diverse and inclusive learning environment while actively promoting bilingualism and biliteracy among students and staff. In the principal’s absence, the Assistant Principal assumes full administrative responsibility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Support curriculum development and implementation aligned with dual language education best practices.
Promote a culturally inclusive school environment that supports bilingualism and biliteracy.
Assist in leadership of the building faculty and staff in such a way that addresses district and building mission, vision, and goals, and assures attention to the attainment of student performance standards.
Assist in the organization and management of the building in such a way that fosters a safe, secure, healthy, and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Assist in the organization, management, and facilitation of the Guiding Coalition and School Improvement Process, and otherwise participate in the same to the extent directed by the Principal.
Assist in the supervision and evaluation of staff according to District’s guidelines.
Assist in all standardized testing scheduling and implementation.
Assist the Principal with recommendations to the Superintendent for hiring, contract status, re-employment, or termination for all instructional personnel.
As directed by the Principal, attend MTSS/IEP meetings, and assure compliance with governing statutes and regulations.
As directed by the Principal, manage the use of the school by community and other non-school groups according to District policies and guidelines.
Assist with curriculum evaluation and development by instructional staff.
Facilitate communication and good relations amongst the staff members of the school and between that staff and the staff of other schools, and between that staff and district support and administrative personnel.
Facilitate the communication, good relations, and cooperation of the staff with parents in general, and other parent-based school support groups as well as with appropriate community-based support groups. As directed by the Principal, participate in the meetings and activities of parent-based support groups at the school.
Promote positive school-community relations and communication.
Keep accurate and up-to-date attendance, enrollment, discipline, and general cumulative student records according to District policies and guidelines, and cause information from these to be reported in an accurate and timely way when requested by the District, State of Wyoming, or other appropriate agency.
Administer normal disciplinary measures in the school. Keep all staff members advised of disciplinary measures as allowed by District policies and guidelines. Keep records on all disciplinary measures taken. Recommend to the Superintendent of Schools expulsion of students whenever behavior necessitates.
Supervise or cause to be supervised all student activities and programs within the school.
As directed by the Principal, participate in administrative meetings, attend school board meetings when appropriate, and assume district wide assignments in a manner that serves the best interest of Teton County School District No. 1.
Consistently and faithfully apply the policies and guidelines of the District in the administration of the school.
Assist with the development of the school schedule and the assignment of students to teachers and classes.
Assists with maintenance of a coordinated inventory control program for all areas of the school – texts, furniture, equipment and supplies.
Function as the Principal in the Principal’s absences.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
Demonstrated success in philosophy, curriculum, and instruction at the position’s grade level, including an understanding of a culturally responsive instructional process and a variety of instructional techniques, as well as a commitment to the improvement of instructional programs.
Ability to apply knowledge of curriculum and instruction when supervising and evaluating teachers and when explaining school programs to parents, and the community.
Clear demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology and implementation at the class and all school level. Experience and knowledge related to instructional technology directly related to student engagement and instructional practice frameworks.
Demonstrated success in leading the improvement of student learning, as evidenced by the improvement of school-based and/or District-based data points.
Proven record of collaborative approach to leadership and established community partnerships.
A strong track record of positive and productive relationships with peers in the workplace and a deep understanding of emotional intelligence required to lead others in the change process.
Working knowledge and experience with MTSS models at the elementary school level, particularly in a dual language learning environment.
Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively.
Ability to weigh options, think clearly, and evaluate accurately.
Ability to understand and facilitate needs of various personality types.
Ability to make decisions with sound emotional judgment.
Understand the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of elementary-aged students.
Ability to develop a plan and make decisions to facilitate its fulfillment.
Demonstrated successful and culturally responsive leadership experiences in staff leadership, supervision, and evaluation, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with teachers to improve instruction.
Demonstrated understanding of the change process and its relationship to current trends in education at the position’s grade level.
Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, scheduling, and allocating resources, reaching logical conclusions and making high-quality decisions using appropriate decision-making processes, and accepting responsibility for actions and consequences.
Demonstrated success incorporating culturally competent strategies and utilizing culturally responsive communication and engagement strategies with all members of the school community.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
CREDENTIAL: Required: Appropriate Wyoming School Administration Certification (WY PTSB School administration certification or proof of enrollment in a program to obtain certification by August 1, 2025-2026 SY)
Education: Required B.A. or B.S.
Desirable: M.A., M.S
EXPERIENCE: Required: Minimum of three years of teaching – credentialed service.
Desirable: Five or more years of teaching and/or administrative type experiences at the elementary school level, experience teaching students and adults in Spanish, direct experience working with elementary teachers in an instructional coaching and support capacity.
Character, approachability as a leader, personality, and proper social capability to relate effectively with a diverse faculty and student body, and community.
Demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of community groups and organizations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
