Position Title: Special Education Tutor (ABA Self-Contained Special Education Program)

Job Summary:
The ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Tutor will work under the direct supervision of a certified special education teacher and behavior analyst to implement individualized educational and behavioral programs for students in a self-contained special education setting. The ABA Tutor will assist students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities by implementing behavioral interventions, data collection, and skill acquisition programs to support their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs as designed by the supervising teacher and behavior analyst.
Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce academic, social, and behavioral skills.
Utilize prompting, reinforcement, and other ABA techniques to support student learning and behavior management.
Collect and maintain accurate data on student performance and behavior as directed.
Collaborate with the special education teacher, therapists, and other team members to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Assist with classroom management, including implementing structured routines and supporting students in transitions.
Support students with self-care needs, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene, as necessary.
Utilize communication supports such as PECS, AAC devices, and other assistive technology as needed.
Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies as trained.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions related to ABA principles and special education best practices.
Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Prior experience working with students with autism and/or special needs in an educational setting preferred.
Certifications: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification preferred or special education educator endorsement or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong understanding of ABA principles and behavior management strategies.
Ability to follow behavior intervention plans and individualized programming.
Patience, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to collect and analyze behavioral and academic data.
Proficiency in using assistive technology and augmentative communication devices is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and assist students as needed.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
Ability to implement physical interventions when necessary (with proper training).
Work Environment:
School-based setting, including classrooms and specialized instructional areas.
Interaction with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
