Position Type: Algebra Readiness Tutor (29 Hours Per Week)
Salary: $31.50 per hour
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the building administration and Mathematics Supervisor, to support and evaluate the District's educational programs in Mathematics, to serve as a resource and tutor, and to improve students' success in Mathematics.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides support to ensure comprehensive and sequential intervention for curriculum and instruction in Mathematics.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and assists teachers in modifying instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs to reach standards and goals.
- Organizes and implements engaging Mathematics activities, including preparation of materials and supplies.
- Documents student progress/activities/outcomes, implement prepared lesson plans; assesses and provide feedback to administration and teaching staff regarding student progress and achievement and the effectiveness of District Mathematics curriculum resources.
- Maintains familiarity with district and Virginia State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
- Provides for continuing improvement of instruction through professional development, cooperation with building administrators, teacher observations and classroom visits.
- Supports the introduction and utilization of innovative teaching materials and techniques in line with best educational practices.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, and reporting for related student activities and achievement as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Keeps current of developments in Mathematics and provides assistance and instructional material as appropriate.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems and data analysis.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Knowledge of a wide range of basic mathematics, pre-algebra and skills related to Algebra I Standards of Learning.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to prepare oral or written communications related to student support and progress.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Equipment
- Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.

- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
Travel Requirements
- Travels to all school district buildings.
Education
- Mathematics coursework through Advanced Mathematics.
Experience
- Successful teaching or tutoring experience in Mathematics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of all students and the community in mathematics.
