General Function:
Working under the authority of the Executive Director of Safety and/or designee, the Safety Aide provides personal, equipment, and real property safety assistance for faculty, staff, students, and visitors within an assigned area of the Santa Fe Public Schools District. Provides escort services, and other basic public assistance services as needed. Performs routine safety aide activities and public safety patrol duties within the assigned area. Remains alert to emergency situations. Provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required.
Education/Training/Experience: Minimum: Must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license. High school diploma or GED. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Ability to successfully conduct safety patrols without direct supervision. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to complete routine paperwork. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Skill in performing building safety checks and lock procedures. Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures. Skill in providing protective services to individuals on campus. Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs all functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following:- Record and notify all risks, deviations from school safety standards, and incidents.
- Watch for suspicious persons entering, exiting, or loitering around the school District properties.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and preventative measures.
- Assist with emergency drills at schools or school sites.
- Develop and advise key personnel of emergency procedures.
- Coordinate with external police authorities in the investigation and handling of crimes, accidents, etc., involving the building, school, or school site.
- Perform all tasks consistently in line with the District’s standards and adhere to all legal and statutory requirements.
- Encourage and educate site staff to adhere to safety rules to protect themselves, staff, and students.
- Complete incident reports.
Salary Range:
$27,624.00 to $28,373.00+
($17.00 to $18.00 per hour)
Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to full and part-time employees who work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Regularly required to stand; move throughout a room and/or facility. Communicate verbally and electronically. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, and drive. May have occasion to perform light lifting up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and private automobile. Some evening or weekend work and travel may be required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Environmental Conditions:
Walking and working in outdoor climates unique to Northern New Mexico for several hours at a time, reading, speaking to individuals, and large audiences. Sitting for extended periods, typing, and driving.
