  •   JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
     The Instructional Support Specialist positively impacts student achievement. They support, train and coach classroom  teachers, home visitors and community partners by coaching and  modeling effective teaching practices based on expectations and best practice for Pre-K learners. They facilitate professional development and collaboration for effective classroom instruction; oversee and coordinate associated data collection and reports; and assist Early Childhood staff using the data to plan effective instruction.
     
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
     This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, and duties associated with this position.  The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary. 
    1. Assist staff in teaching, planning, developing and implementing appropriate curriculum to realize success for all students. 
    2. Teach, team teach and model/demonstrate instructional practices of student participation, engagement, early  literacy, Pre-K skills and Social Emotional practices. 
    3. Support staff in developing best practices for differentiating instruction for all student learners.
    4. Model and teach intervention services to students as needed. 
    5. Oversee and coordinate associated instructional data.
    6. Collect, analyze, present and lead discussions about student learning data. 
    7. Observe classroom lessons and provide feedback to teachers and instructional assistants. 
    8. Support teachers, home visitors and community partners to utilize Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. 
    9. Attend trainings, meetings and collaborate with teachers, specialists and administration. 
    10. Attend IFSP meetings for students as needed.  May act as case manager for students served in a community preschool setting.
    11. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings and following schedules.
    12. Work well within a team. Promote good staff morale and put team needs above individual needs.
    13. Collaborate with others to complete tasks and solve problems in a positive manner 
    14. Communicate effectively in a courteous, tactful and professional manner. 
    15. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed. 
    16. Assist in the planning  and implementation of behavior management programs.
    17. Maintain a system of open communication with parents and involve parents in planning and delivery of services.
    18. Maintain good relationships with staff and students.
    19. Assist with lifting and positioning of students.
    20. Complete paperwork requirements of the job using approved forms (including Medicaid billing) in an accurate and timely manner.
    21. Maintain confidentiality of student records and of ESD staff and complies with state and federal regulations regarding privacy.
    22. Maintain regular attendance in order to preserve the continuity of service delivery for the program.
    23. Meet standards for competent and ethical performance as outlined in OAR 584-20-005-035.
    24. Perform duties in a manner reasonably expected and generally recognized by the profession.
    25. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, Director of Special Education, and Superintendent.
      QUALIFICATIONS
    1. Understanding of early child development, including the interrelated aspects of cognitive, language and social development.
    2. Demonstrated successful experience working in Early Intervention, Early Childhood Special Education or Special Education
    3. Successful experience implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and social-emotional teaching practices
    4. Basic understanding of learning theory and behavior management.
    5. Ability to deal with staff, students, and the public in an effective manner and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
    6. Valid Oregon driver's license, appropriate automobile insurance and must provide own transportation.
    7. Ability to respect confidential information.
    8. Hold a current first aid card.
    EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
    1. Oregon Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:          
    Terms of Employment: 191 Day
    Union: South Coast ESD Education Association
    Rate: $47,371 - $87,518 /yr DOE 

    First consideration for this position will be given to properly licensed members of the collective bargaining unit.

    A fingerprint-based criminal history investigation will be required.
