TITLE: TEACHER ASSISTANT
$17/hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must meet requirements for paraprofessionals set by the Illinois State Board of Education
2. Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively and fluently in English
3. Competent in utilizing a computer to communicate via email and in using an office
productivity suite like Microsoft Office (including Microsoft Word) or Google Apps for
Education
4. Demonstrated compassion, patience and teamwork
5. Training and/or experience as teacher assistant desired
Physical Requirements:
1. Standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching,
handling, pushing, pulling is required
2. Must have the ability to lift and move 60 lbs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Reports to work on time
2. Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance
3. Reads and responds to district/building communications in a timely manner and
within any explicitly defined deadlines
4. Works with individual students or small groups to support/reinforce classroom
lessons and objectives as directed by the teacher
5. Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned
by the teacher
6. Assists the teacher in monitoring student behavior/academic progress
7. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play
periods, and field trips and transition periods
8. Works with/assists teacher in supporting classroom instruction, providing materials
and creating a positive instructional environment
9. When applicable, assists teacher in implementing Individual Education Plan
10. Shares information on student progress and student concerns with the classroom
teacher in a timely fashion
11. On a regular basis, establishes a time within the school day to collaborate and discuss
expected duties with the assigned teacher (s)
12. Helps students with their clothing, lunch, snacks, and clean up routine
13. Serves as a source of information for substitute teachers
14. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
15. Demonstrates effective management of his/her time and student schedules
16. Implements and follows the District’s Health and Accident/Injury Procedures and
Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
17. Supports and implements the District’s Risk Management Policy to ensure that
statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors,
employees, and students, to provide careful supervision and protection of all District
real and personal property
18. Conducts himself/herself as a role model for students
19. Participates in professional development/training programs as directed by building or
district administrator(s)
20. Completes all District required trainings and adhere to all Board policies and
procedures
21. Performs additional job duties as assigned by the building /district administrator(s)
CONTRACT AND COMPENSATION
Starting at $17.00 an hour
12 sick days/4 personal days/11 paid holidays
HMO-PPO Medical & Dental Insurance (HMO employee only - no cost)
Tution reimbursement
