Join Sumner Middle School, located in the picturesque town of Sullivan, Maine. Nestled just 15 minutes east of Ellsworth and 40 miles from Bangor, our brand-new Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus serves both Sumner Middle School and Sumner Memorial High School. Position Overview:
We are seeking a team-oriented, energetic, and creative educator to teach English Language Arts at Sumner Middle School. The ideal candidate will inspire a love for reading and writing, engage students in critical thinking, and support their academic and social-emotional growth.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field.
Valid Maine Teacher Certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
Current Maine Department of Education (MDOE) Criminal History Records Check.
Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) program is preferred.
Strong classroom management skills and a passion for student-centered learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging ELA lessons aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
Utilize a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports students’ social-emotional well-being.
Implement PBIS strategies to encourage positive behavior and maintain a structured, respectful learning space.
Utilize the BARR program to build strong relationships with students and identify early signs of academic or social challenges.
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success.
Integrate technology effectively into instruction to enhance student learning experiences.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families.
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in ELA instruction.
