  •   Description: K-8 Special Education Resource Teacher / Interventionist (2025-2026 School Year)

    The candidate that fulfills this role may work as a Special Education Teacher and an Interventionist, depending on the time of the year and the needs of the school.


    Job Summary: Work with driven team and individuals while assisting students in grades PRe-K through 8th grade. Work duties would include MTSS/RTI progress monitoring, test proctoring, IEP implementation, and creating lesson plans/activities to meet the diverse needs of all students. Additional extracurricular activities may be available.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Cross Categorical Teacher will have and maintain in the area of their assigned responsibility:
    • The professional qualifications and certifications required by the Board of Education and the State of Illinois (LBS 1 or simliar endorsement)
    • Attend workshops, lectures, or District committees, and/or utilize other opportunities which will promote continued educational competence.
    • An understanding of students and learning behavior.
    • An understanding of current District educational policies and objectives.
    • An understanding of diagnostic and remediation techniques.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Supports the policies of the Board of Education.
    • Provides for the care and protection of school property.
    • Be available for all meetings and inservice programs of the District as directed by the appropriate Board designated administrator.
    • Helps maintain and support continuous and constructive communication with the Board designated administrator(s).
    • Instructs individual special students and small groups in IEP directed instruction in the general education setting and/or resource room.
    • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
    • Evaluates/monitors student progress in and outside of special education rooms, collects appropriate data related to student goals.
    • Maintains contact and has a good working relationship with parents.
    • Keeps regular staff members informed of student needs, IEP goals, necessary accommodations, etc.
    • Facilitates in class learning opportunities for students
    • Formally evaluates students.
    • Maintains student records completely and accurately.
    • Attends initial evaluation meetings and reevaluation staffing of students.
    • Accurately implements all meetings and paperwork within compliance guidelines.
    • Accurately prepares IEPs and assures all staff members and parents receives the final copy of the IEP.
    • Problem solves with parents and school staff when a special student is experiencing difficulties.
    • Acts as a resource person for the classroom teacher, giving aid to them in the identification of problems, and the utilization of teaching methods and materials and program modifications.
    • Maintains a cooperative and professional relationship with colleagues.
    • Works cooperatively with the Board of Education designated administrator(s) in the evaluation process.

    EVALUATION:
    Evaluation of this job will be conducted in accordance with the Board’s policy of evaluation of certified personnel.
