Job Title: Elementary Library/Media Specialist and Campus Testing Coordinator

Primary Purpose:
Supervise and manage the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to
develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher,
campus testing coordinator, materials expert, and curriculum adviser. Ensure that library/media center is
involved in instructional programs of the school.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
ESL Certification
Working knowledge of library and information science
Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of library and information science
Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Two years successful classroom teaching experience in a public elementary school setting
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction
Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students to help them locate resources and use research techniques.
Consult teachers on appropriate use of materials and help them schedule materials for classroom instruction.
Serve as information resource for users of library/media center materials and provide staff development opportunities for teachers on the availability and use of campus and district learning resources.
Library Programs
Effectively plan the school library program to meet identified needs.
Plan, coordinate, and assist with district/campus events including Battle of the Books, UIL, and Spelling Bee.
Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources.
Coordinate development and maintenance of community resource files.
Maintain schedules for instructional video programs and encourage use of video programs for educational purposes.
Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the grade level, developmental level and interests of students.
Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Assessment
Facilitate all aspects of planning, coordinating, and evaluating the campus standardized testing
program under the direction of the district testing coordinator. Verify that students receive allowable
accommodations as assigned by the appropriate committees.
Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment and ensure that campus complies with test security
requirements. Report testing related issues to the campus principal and district testing coordinator.
Implement and monitor the administration of state assessments and verify campus compliance with
state and local mandates, procedures, record keeping, and deadlines.
Attend all district level assessment training. Conduct campus level training regarding current
requirements of the state assessment program including test administration, security, and
confidentiality. Disseminate information as it relates to student assessment.
Communicate results of testing (and other appraisal results) to school personnel, students, and their
parents.
Student Management
Carry out discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward the school library.
Administration
Compile, budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Assist administrators with maintaining the campus website.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the library/media services area.
Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on the findings.
Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
Communication
Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
