Primary Purpose:
Responsible for the implementation, continuous maintenance, and ongoing support of district phone systems, printers, fax services, and physical network infrastructure. This position is responsible for the continuous integration, operation, and optimization of telecommunications systems, including phones, fax services, printers, print servers, cabling projects and ensuring their continuous functionality as needed by the district. Assist in integrating systems with an active directory and must have a solid understanding of Windows based domains and directory services. Provide assistance to the network team projects as required. The telecom infrastructure specialist plays a critical role in ensuring reliability, security, and efficiency of phone, fax and printing systems while providing technical support to district personnel.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Strong understanding of Active Directory, LDAP, and network security principles.
Strong understanding of Google Workspace and Microsoft Intune where required to deploy print services to district devices.
Certified CompTIA, Microsoft, or Cisco network professionals preferred.
Knowledge of copiers, printers, Windows based print servers and Papercut MF
Knowledge of IP Phones, SIP devices, cloud based fax services
Familiarity with networking concepts such as VLANs, subnets, ACLs, QoS, SIP
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex system integrations.
Ability to diagnose software issues and maintain network documentation.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for telecommunications and network systems integration.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of LAN and MAN networks.
Understanding of the OSI model and its application to design and troubleshooting.
Working knowledge of networking protocols.
Proficiency in managing operating systems within an IP network, including Windows, Chrome, iOS, Linux derivatives, and IoT devices.
Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot network cables and hardware.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Must be able to lift, climb, use ladders and travel to multiple campuses as required.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Integration, operation, and optimization of telecommunications systems, including phones, fax services, printers, print servers, cabling projects and ensuring their continuous functionality as needed by the district.
Ensure integration of these systems with cloud platforms and Active Directory (AD) as needed.
Administer user access, authentication, and system security, leveraging Active Directory and LDAP protocols.
Document processes and troubleshooting procedures to maintain a reliable knowledge base.
Continuously monitor system performance and implement proactive maintenance strategies to prevent downtime and ensure long-term operational efficiency.
Manage network configurations related to VoIP and Fax services, including VLANs, subnets, ACLs, and QoS implementation.
Provide technical support and training to staff as needed.
Stay informed on emerging technologies for network infrastructure and best practices for school phone, printing and fax systems.
Ensure compliance with district policies and industry standards for school phone, printing and fax systems.
Technical Support
Work with District staff to identify and correct equipment and network related problems.
Maintain printer and phone system configuration documentation.
Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain product support.
Equipment Repair and Maintenance
Diagnose, repair and or exchange failing infrastructure components.
Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule.
Maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance.
Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
Other
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
Comply with policies established by federal and Texas state education laws, as well as local board policies.
Maintain data confidentiality, access, and integrity.
Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
Exhibit punctuality and professionalism in all duties.
Serve as a positive role model for students and staff.
Perform ongoing phone, printing and infrastructure upgrades, along with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Work well under stress. Occasional work after normal hours or district holidays to complete upgrades and/or services as may be required.
Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer and traveling to various facilities throughout the district. Lifting and moving of heavy equipment; stooping, bending, and kneeling.
