Description: Assist students with special needs or students that need additional support under the direction of a certified teacher. Will generally work in an inclusionary setting (i.e. least restrictive environment). Assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities, helps students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting students in achieving academic success
Working with students who may be disruptive in class
Behavior support which includes physical management (training provided upon hire)
Social integration
Consultation and collaboration with Program Director as well as related service staff
Any and all other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in the content area or enrolled in a program leading towards obtaining such degree.
Currently hold a Colorado teaching license or have licensure application in process with appropriate endorsement in Education or a valid Colorado Substitute Teaching License and enrolled in a program working toward alternative licensure

Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work cooperatively with parents, students, and staff.
Demonstrates organizational and communication skills.

JOB GOAL:
To develop in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of the general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.         Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony and explorations in music and in instrumental music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and/or choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to secondary/elementary students. Use courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
2.         Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
3.         Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
4.         Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
5.         Use repertoires of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
6.         Control the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.
7.         Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly and productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances.
8.         Evaluate each student's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.
9.         Plan, rehearse and direct students in musical programs for school and community. Apply knowledge of district procedures and limitations set on performances.
10.        Select and requisition books, musical instruments and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
11.        Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
12.        Identify student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
13.        Cooperate with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies and civic functions.
14.        Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
15.        Participate in curriculum and other development programs.
16.        Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
17.        Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.

SUMMARY
Responsible for the social emotional wellness of the school building and the transition support of students from primary level to secondary level. Utilize Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards across the academic and career domains with student intervention strategies. Support students across the continuum with RTI and MTSS. This support includes but is not limited to one-on-one support, group work, classroom and teacher support, and collaborative problem solving with both prevention and intervention models.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Counseling (School or Clinical)
Valid CDE License as Special Service Provider in the area of School Counselor or willing to work towards certification and able to obtain a Temporary Educator Eligibility as a School Counselor (must upload license or in process documentation to application).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Utilize and refer to a variety of student support structures including but not limited to: MTSS, ALP, 504, ICAP and the special education referral process.

Use research-based and technically sound practices to drive decision-making; and collaborate with school personnel and parents to develop and modify student intervention strategies.

Serve as liaison among district building(s), families and community and collaborate with various teams to assure positive outcomes for all learners.

Provide professional learning or content for adult learners.

Respect for diversity in the home, school, local and global communities.
