    EDUCATIONAL SERVICES PERSONNEL POSITION DESCRIPTION

     

    Position:         OFFICE AIDE

     

    Work Schedule:        Between 4 & 8 hours daily per building needs, 182 days for elementary, 192 for middle school

     

    Evaluation:        90 days, Annually thereafter

     

    Reports to:         Building Principal

     

    Compensation:        According to ESP agreement / Level II position                             

     

    Summary: Provide service to students, teachers, support staff, parents, and visitors who approach office front desk/counter.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

     
    1. Greet and assist visitors.

    2. Answer telephones and respond to or direct calls

    3. Perform general clerical tasks (i.e. typing, filing, mail sorting and distributing, duplicating).

    4. Record basic data entry of attendance, discipline, registration, supply, and/or athletic and student activities information.

    5. Operate equipment in classroom, workroom, or office.

    6. Provide assistance with ill or injured students.

    7. Maintain Confidentiality.

    8. Monitor safety procedures in the office: fire, disaster and code blue drills, and monitor cameras.

    9. Act as a liaison between faculty and students.

    10. Task assignments for this position are made by the building administrator according to each school's specific needs. The building administrator may have additional input in identifying other preferred qualifications and/or appropriate duties that may exceed those described above.

    11. Follow other directives from the Principal, the Assistant Principal and the Superintendent that serve to improve services to the students and patrons of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.

     

    Qualification Requirements:

     
    1. High School Diploma or Equivalent.

    2. General office skills (i.e. typing, filing, operation of basic office equipment).

    3. Proficient computer skills (i.e. word processing/excel, data entry, internet).

    4. Willingness to improve and/or develop job-related skills.

    5. Excellent time-management skills.

    6. Excellent communication skills-oral, written, and interpersonal. Detail oriented.

    7. Excellent work habits, attendance record and successfully complete and pass all criminal history and child abuse clearances.

    8. Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

     

    Sensory Requirements ~ Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. All tasks require oral communications ability.

     

    Environmental Factors ~ The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: 

     
    • Tasks are regularly performed without potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as temperature and noise extremes, odors, humidity, vibrations, traffic hazards, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances. 

    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however the noise level can vary depending upon daily activity, but will still remain within the acceptable noise level range

     

    Mental Effort  ~ Normal Concentration/intensity, which includes prolonged mental effort with limited opportunity for breaks.
