    Summary: Provide a learning climate that encourages student motivation and leads students toward the fulfillment of their individual potential for intellectual, social/emotional, psychomotor growth and maturation by providing guidance that will assist students to develop a positive and realistic self concept to assist them in overcoming any personal problems that may impede their learning.
     
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Assist with development, coordination and facilitation of lessons that benefit staff and students.
    2. Consult with teachers about students with difficulties that affect their school progress.
    3. Support a positive school and home relationship and meet with parents when necessary.
    4. Cooperatively organize and administer the standardized testing program and interpret results to students, parents and teachers.
    5. Review data to foster the growth of guidance services.
    6. Assist with master schedule for building as needed.
    7. Attend meetings and participate in school activities when related to the instructional program.
    8. Meet with counselors to coordinate counseling services as needed.
    9. Facilitate individual and group counseling to help promote students’ success within the school setting.
    10. Assist with all school facets of the special education referral process.
    11. Require students to maintain orderly standards of behavior on school property and seeks support when needed.
    12. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy and the Teacher Agreement.
    13. Conduct suicide risk assessments when needed and follow the district’s suicide prevention and response administrative guidelines.
    14. Assist with suicide prevention activities as needed.
    15. Participate on the school’s threat assessment team, when needed.
    16. Cooperate with other staff members and supporting personnel to ensure a quality-learning environment.
    17. Follow other directives from the Principal and the Learning Division that serve to improve services to the students and patrons of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.
    Qualification Requirements:
    1. Current Indiana School Services License as a School Counselor.
    2. Excellent communication skills-oral, written, and interpersonal. Detail oriented.
    3. Excellent work habits, attendance record and successfully complete and pass all criminal history and child abuse clearances.
    4. Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
