School Psychologist

Job Summary
Under limited supervision, provides a broad range of psychological services to assigned schools, including but not limited to psychological testing, consultation and counseling of students.
 
Qualifications
Requires a Masters degree or higher in school psychology supplemented by two years of experience as a school psychologist intern, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be state-certified as a School Psychologist.
 
Working Conditions
(220 Position)
Full time position, paid on teacher salary schedule.  School assignment will be determined based on the needs of the district. This employee may work in a variety of school settings. Paid on the School Psychologist Salary Schedule.

Description: 
1.        Assists school health committee and administrators in developing the school health program.
2.        Participates in work of health curriculum committee.
3.        Performs state recommended screenings on appropriate groups of students and makes necessary referrals.
4.        Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
5.        Informs teachers and staff on screening students for health defects.
6.        Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
7.        Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters as requested by the superintendent, district staff and principals.
8.        Visits student homes when necessary.
9.        Administers First Aid in accordance with established procedures.
10.         Monitors, assists and/or administers medications.

12.         Makes recommendations to Director of Speech and Language Services on program improvement.
13.         Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
14.         Maintains confidentiality of student records.
15.         Participates in professional development training programs.
16.         Attends meetings called by the Director of Speech and Language Services.
17.         Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standard in the school.
18.         Checks records to ensure that all students have had the immunizations required by law and refers parents to where they may be obtained.
19.         Prepares and submits required health reports to appropriate agencies.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with Communications Specialist to develop communication strategies. Assist with layout, design and production of web site, electronic newsletters and other publications for the purpose of ensuring school district information is disseminated in a quality format. Write a variety of communications (e.g. press releases, personal interest stories, newsletters, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the media and public informed of school district activities. Pitch video and print story ideas to the Communications Specialist on a routine basis using information gathered from multiple sources. Produce school district e- newsletter, InFocus, containing print and broadcast stories (e.g. writes, edits, disseminates, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the public and staff informed. Provide regular updates to the InFocus website for the purpose of keeping stakeholders informed of school district events and activities. Collaborate with district personnel for the purpose of developing public communication, including press releases, e-mail items or videotapes. Record district programs and events (e.g. photographs, videotape, etc.). Operate a variety of video, audio and computer equipment for the purpose of producing programs for broadcast, web site and e-mail distribution. Assist with the planning, coordination and implementation of recognition programs and special events for the purpose of ensuring the programs are run according to district expectations and guidelines. Maintain excellent relations with students, principals, teachers, staff and community members for the purpose of serving as a communications liaison for schools. Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. staff, parents, public agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and facilitating communication among parties. Research current web and internet technology for the purpose of keeping up-to-date with new technology. Serves as a back-up to Communications Director and Communications Specialist regarding social media. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
