    POSITION PURPOSE:
    Under general direction of the Director of the Career and Technical Education Center, provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students.  Provides supervision to students in a variety of school related settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, develops, selects or modifies lessons plans to ensure all student needs are met, and maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of South Carolina Department of Education  and Orangeburg County School District (OCSD). Provides quality standards-based instruction in the area of Health Sciences.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     
          
    • Provides all students the best education available anywhere, preparing every child to lead a rich and productive life in the 21st century.
    •     
    • Creates a culture of effectiveness, by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
    •     
    • Plans a program of study in the assigned content area that meets the needs, interests and abilities of assigned students.
    •     
    • Creates a classroom environment that provides for student engagement in the learning process and enables students to achieve learning objectives.
    •     
    • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal or his/her designee.
    •     
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in accordance with goals established by OCSD, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicates these objectives to students.
    •     
    • Establishes learning objectives consistent with the appraisal of student needs, requirements of SDE and OCSD curriculum framework and knowledge of human growth and development including the South Carolina College and Career Readiness Standards.
    •     
    • Coordinate CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competition
    •     
    • Attend District PLC meetings as scheduled
    •     
    • Plans for and utilizes instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
    •     
    • Diagnoses the learning challenges of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of central office staff as required.  Provides input when necessary to student IEPs.
    •     
    • Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
    •     
    • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required to do so under reasonable terms.
    •     
    • Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
    •     
    • Appraises his/her effectiveness and demonstrates successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness.  Strives to maintain and improve professional effectiveness.
    •     
    • Participates in a cooperative effort with faculty and staff to plan, implement and evaluation programs of continuing school improvement.
    •     
    • Utilizes technology and current research in instruction.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education: 
          
    • Associates or Bachelor’s degree
    Required Credentials: 
          
    • Healthcare license representative of degree prior to teaching (Examples (not inclusive list): Health Education, Athletic Training - Certified Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist -State level license; Medical Doctor - state level license, Paramedic-state level license,  Physical Therapist,  and Registered Nurse - state level license.
    •     
    • Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate for content area as required by the South Carolina Department of Education
    Experience: 
          
    • 3-5 years teaching experience (preferred).
     
    EXPERIENCE: 
          
    • Have the ability and experience in working with teams.  Must have experience communicating and working with colleagues and support staff on a continual basis and coordinating activities with other members/staff of an organization.
    •     
    • Must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral modes.
    •     
    • Computer experience including Microsoft Office suite, Project Management Software, Logistics software, as they relate to the logistics and transportation professions and the teaching profession.
     
    JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    Language SkillsAbility to read English and comprehend complex technical language.  Ability to write memoranda and correspondence in English.  Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
     
    Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy. 
     
    Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
     
    Other Skills and AbilitiesAbility to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.   Usually there is a need to motivate, establish rapport, gain support, or persuade or influence individuals or groups. Occasional debate is often characteristic of the contact and may require considerable skill in diplomacy, tact and discretion.
     
    Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand.  The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The employee may be required to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time.
     
    Working Conditions: School or office environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions. Routine local travel required; occasional overnight travel required. Requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines.
