Classroom Coach (Internal Candidates Only)

The Classroom Coach, an elementary teacher on special assignment, is an instructional leader in developing a strong classroom community. Primary responsibilities include articulating and monitoring the delivery of our Social, Academic, and Personal Learning (SAPL) framework and RULER approach for emotional intelligence. The coach will be able to apply their knowledge of adult learning and learning environments for children in order to build the capacity of teachers to support the social and emotional needs of students. As a result, the Classroom Coach will assist teachers in developing a learning environment that reflects a positive, safe climate and supports fidelity of instruction for the teacher and students. The Classroom Coach must possess evidence of being a leader in developing a strong classroom community, a positive school climate, and be well versed in current research and instructional practice in this area. In addition, she/he must be a skilled observer of children, able to undertake focused student observations, develop plans to support social skill-building in the classroom, model and co-teach lessons, and collaborate with teachers and students to build relationships and connections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Implementation of NCPS SAPL Framework
Work closely with our Coordinator of Student Support Services to bring consistency and fidelity to Tier One instruction using our SAPL Framework and EI tools
Deep understanding of Domain 1: Learning Environment in the Effective Teaching Framework that is part of the Teacher Evaluation and Professional Growth Plan (TEPL)
Support staff in understanding strategies and skills that strengthen the classroom community and learning environment
Lead and support classroom teachers (as well as specials area staff) in the development of classroom management skills and integration of EI skills
Coach teachers in developing student SAPL skills to improve behavior
Support teachers in understanding the “why” behind teaching strategies and skills that support the classroom community and learning environment
Observe teachers, model lessons, and offer support in developing Tier One instruction and supports that promote our EI work
Assist teachers in developing differentiated instructional strategies of SAPL skills with all students
Support teachers in writing DIRs (Differentiated Instructional Record) and developing progress monitoring plans
Ongoing collaboration with building administrators, social workers and school psychologists
Develop classroom lessons in conjunction with the Student Support Coordinator to support SAPL/RULER and have a deep understanding of the UbD process
Program Evaluation
Regularly assess the implementation of our SAPL Framework, RULER tools and related text materials, resource materials, and technology and recommend changes and improvements as appropriate.
Review and analyze school and classroom SAPL data and indicators with building administrators and classroom teachers to inform instruction.
Participate in USTs, LSTs, and SSTs as needed.
Collaborate with teachers, social workers and psychologists in the development of appropriate Tier One interventions that support social and emotional learning.
Professional Development
Provide professional learning for teachers in the implementation of lessons that support Social, Academic, and Personal Learning, including our RULER lessons (Ex: specific tools, strategies, and lesson implementation) and lessons that support Tier One instruction.
Provide professional learning for teachers that builds a mindset of collaborative problem solving to address student deficit areas as a lack of skill (not will).
Self-reflect on their development as a coach and their knowledge of SAPL/EI and seek out additional PL opportunities.
