Vacancy for the 2025-26 school year for a School Social Worker at New Canaan High School.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Pupil and Family Services, school social workers are expected to provide the following levels of service: assessments, interventions and liaisons with community agencies and services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assessments
Assess individual student social emotional functioning
Prepare social work assessments when appropriate
Engages with families to assess needs as appropriate
Interventions
Consults with teachers to support students’ educational program
Provides individual and/or group counseling to students
Provides groups for parents dealing with educational issues
Provides short-term family counseling to facilitate student participation in educational program
Works with families in ameliorating psychosocial stressors
Participates with team in providing crisis intervention services
Makes referrals to appropriate community services
Liaison with Community Agencies and Services
Provides information on community services to families and school personnel
Communicates regularly with outside agencies and providers regarding student support
QUALIFICATIONS
Holds Connecticut State Certification in School Social Work
