DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform maintenance duties in an efficient, professional and neat workman like manner as directed and scheduled by the Facilities Manager or Assistant Manager.
2. Perform general repairs to school building fixtures, equipment and furniture as required to ensure a safe school environment at all times.
3. Respond to service calls, evaluates the issues and perform all work required to provide the safe use of electrical power and lightings in all school classrooms, kitchens and offices.  Maintains a safe environment in all of the schools for all staff, students and visitors following all necessary safety practices.
4. Completes assigned works on a timely basis and with a high level of quality, cleanliness and accuracy.
5. Maintain an excellent attendance record. Reliability is mandatory.
6. Perform specific duties not limited to electrical repair and maintenance, to include the good and welfare of the entire school district. This includes snow removal, roof top drain cleaning, and moving furniture, assisting on special projects or school events and all other general duties as a maintenance mechanic.
7. Maintain appropriate personal appearance in presenting yourself to the school staff, students and visitors including wearing assigned uniforms and proper safety footwear.
8. Take self-initiative to maintain a high level of work standards. Must present excellent customer service skills in dealing with the school staff and students.
9. Must be able to work independently, diligently and exhibit pride in assigned duties.
10. Demonstrate proper care and respect for equipment, tools and supplies provided by the district to accomplish duties.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, bending or stooping for prolonged periods of time.  Requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 75 pounds.  Requires vision and hearing correctable to within normal range for the operation of equipment.  Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting of bulky items, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Able to push large waste barrels and carts. Also required to operate snow removal equipment and perform snow shoveling. Requires working in all weather conditions for extended periods.
 
RESPONSIBLE TO
The Maintenance Mechanic serves under the direction of the Facilities Manager and the Assistant Facilities manager who are the primary supervisors and evaluators.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENT
Current State of Connecticut E-1 (preferred) or E-2 Electrical License
7 years’ experience working as an electrician in a commercial or industrial capacity.
Ability to be available for evening and weekend work as required by the district for scheduled and non-scheduled duties.

POSITION SUMMARY
 
•         Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for the students and adults in the school building
•         Completes security checks at entrances and sweeps throughout the school/ grounds to ensure that all visitors to the school are authorized to enter the building.
•         Greets all authorized visitors in a manner which makes them feel welcome and valued.

The New Canaan Public Schools is seeking a .5 Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for the 2025-2026 school year.
 
Job Summary:
The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher collaborates with general and special education staff, related service providers, and families to ensure student access to the curriculum and full participation in school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
• Provide direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing across a variety of educational settings.
• Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Use appropriate communication modes (e.g., American Sign Language, spoken English, cued speech, total communication) based on individual student needs.
• Adapt curriculum and materials to accommodate auditory access and language development needs.
• Assess students’ academic achievement, language development, and auditory access, and provide data-driven instruction.
• Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and outside agencies (e.g., audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters).
• Provide training and support to school staff on hearing loss, communication strategies, assistive technology, and inclusion best practices.
• Monitor and troubleshoot assistive listening devices such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM/DM systems.
• Promote self-advocacy and communication skills among students.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and services provided.
• Participate in planning and placement team (PPT) meetings and other collaborative team meetings.
• Stay current with best practices, legal requirements, and emerging technologies related to deaf education. 
 
Qualifications:
 
• Valid Connecticut State Department of Education certification in Teaching Deaf or Hard of Hearing Students (057).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field from an accredited program.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred
• Experience working in a public school setting.
• Familiarity with inclusive practices

• Strong understanding of language acquisition and educational needs of students with hearing loss.
