Primary Purpose: Responsible for the instructional program and guidance of students identified as needing special education services. Work cooperatively with administrators and instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities as it relates to behavior, social-emotional, and academics.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: - Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignment
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Knowledge of effective behavioral practices for students with severe emotional/behavioral problems.
- Ability to design, implement, and monitor behavior intervention plans.
- Knowledge in data collection systems to develop instructional and behavioral strengths, needs, and goals for specially designed instruction as well as progress monitoring.
- Trained in de-escalation and restraint techniques as required by the district.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in the effective use of technology.
- Physical capacity to meet needs of students with behavioral, neurological, and/or physical disabilities.
- Ability to work effectively with both adults and children.
- Ability to form relationships with all levels of students with disabilities and their parents/caregivers.
- Ability to analyze and support implementation of policy and procedures.
- Ability to interpret data preferred.
Experience: - Three (3) years successful teaching experience in PK-12 public school settings preferred.
- Special Education teaching experience preferred.
Work Schedule: 187 Days
Salary: MISD Teacher Hiring Schedule / Stipend $1000
