Join us for the School Districts of Montgomery County Spring Education Recruitment Fair on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED required (must be willing to obtain the PA Paraeducator Credential of Competency Certificate within probationary period)
• Associates degree or higher OR completion of two (2) years of post-secondary education OR 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
• Background in special education preferred
• Experience working with students with severe/complex behavioral/emotional issues preferred

A vacancy exists for a Security Officer to work within the Office of Facilities and Operations at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The Security Officer will assist program staff and supervisors in providing a safe and secure school environment for students from various backgrounds, including students who have experienced school failure, students identified as in need of special education, and students with severe behavioral and emotional challenges. This position is located at our Early Learning Academy (1650 West Main Street, Norristown, PA 19403). 

Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. 1-3 years of experience as a security guard or law enforcement experience
3. Experience with children and youth who have emotional, learning, and social challenges.
4. Sensitive to individuals of diverse, cultural, ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.
5. Ability to complete Safety Cares training and CPR/First Aid training.
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
7. Skills in conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation strategies, and if necessary, restrain physically aggressive students through 21 years of age.
8. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
9. Personal characteristics indicative of emotional stability, maturity, flexibility, tactfulness, cooperation and cheerfulness.
10. Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI
11. The holder of this position could be required as part of his or her duties to engage in activities that can be charged to a Medical Assistance (MA) program. Clearance as a MA provider by both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the federal government is therefore an essential qualification for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Observe and report activities and incidents at an assigned site, providing for the security and safety of the students, staff, and property.
2. Interact with students in a non-threatening, therapeutic manner.
3. Enforce school and IU policies, patrol the building and grounds, monitor student behavior, intervene in physical encounters, monitor security cameras, monitor visitors, and report unsafe or unhealthy conditions.
4. Supervise students in corridors, cafeteria, van/bus loading and unloading, on excursions, and all other non-instructional areas of the building.
5. Control access to site or facility through the admittance process. Utilize metal-detecting wand, scan bags brought into school including backpacks, purses, etc.
6. Respond to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, etc.
7. Actively model the mission, values, and operating principles of the MCIU.
8. Perform any other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA and provides services to students in classrooms/locations located throughout Montgomery County, PA. This position is located at our Early Learning Academy (1650 West Main Street, Norristown, PA 19403).

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree required
• Special Education N-12 (new cert Special Education PK-8) preferred; Valid PA Teaching Certification (any concentration) required
Daily Rate:
• Day-to-Day Certified Substitute Teacher* (1 to 20 Days)                                $160/day**
• Day-to-Day Certified Substitute Teacher* (Over 20 days)                               $210/day**
* Includes Head Start & Pre-K Counts teachers
**MCIU Retiree Certified Substitute Teachers will receive $20 additional per day

A vacancy exists for a Vision Support/Orientation & Mobility Teacher to work within the Office of Student Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit.  This position is an Itinerant position that will provide services to children in School Age programs throughout the Montgomery County, PA area.  This position is available starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
 
Qualifications:
• A valid PA certification in Teacher of the Visually impaired (TVI) and Orientation & Mobility (O&M) required
• Special Education Certification required
• Prefer Unified English Braille trained (UEB) 
• Experience with students with vision support needs
• Current child abuse, PA Criminal and FBI Fingerprint clearance (dated within one year of hire)
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
• To develop an individualized program for students with vision support/orientation and mobility needs
• Conduct Functional Vision Evaluations, Learning Media Assessments, and ECC Assessment to determine eligibility for vision services.
• Develop a plan for delivering high quality, evidence based instruction and support for children in a variety of environments including general and special education classrooms, specialized schools, community settings and in homes.
• Knowledge of Braille, Low Vision Aids and adaptive technology skills.
• Assure that the student has all educational materials in the appropriate media.
• Work closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure that they understand the implications of visual impairment and the accommodations necessary to assure students have optimal access to instruction and social interactions.

Location:
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA and provide services to students in School Age Special Education and Non-Pub classrooms located throughout Montgomery County, PA. Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 10 months (194 days/year)
 
Salary:
Bachelor’s, Step 1: $52,572/year
Master’s, Step 1: $63,582/year
*Placement on salary schedule based on experience and/or education beyond the Master’s Degree.

Van Driver

Multiple vacancies exist for part-time and/or full-time Van Drivers to work within the Office of Business Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. The Van Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation for students on routes as directed throughout Montgomery County, PA.  
 
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid PA Drivers' License
• Three (3) years of professional driving experience and a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
• Knowledge of safety regulations
• Able to operate a van and drive all posted routes, as well as perform all physical duties and carry out other responsibilities as assigned
• Complies with MCIU drug and alcohol policy and random drug-testing program.
• Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI. 

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Responsibilities include operating a school van in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with all Federal and State DOT regulations
• Follow safety regulations and traffic laws
• Maintain student order and discipline in accordance with MCIU guidelines and policies
• Maps out the most efficient routes for each student using GPS
• Perform all pre and post trip vehicle inspections
• Follow routes as directed by Program Administrator – Operations 
• Maintain route log and complete monthly mileage logs
• Complete transportation access logs
• Communicate with student's parent/guardian about assigned route 
• Keep van clean and fueled 
• Communicate repair needs to transportation office when needed
• Assist children in and out of the van and their securements, proper utilization of equipment (e.g. car seats, etc.), and/or handling/securing wheelchairs
• Maintain professional interactions with all stakeholders
• Reports all accidents and completes required reports
• Assists when called upon with any emergency
• Attends all required training as assigned by the Supervisor 
• Immediately notifies Supervisor of any traffic violations incurred while employed
• Clerical tasks including, but not limited to, data entry, processing and filing paperwork, preparing documents, and updating reports. Coordinate and manage routes as needed. 
• Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs and services.
• Provide additional student and/or classroom support as needed. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator. 
   
Location:
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located at 2 West Lafayette Street, Norristown, PA 19401. This position requires travel to locations throughout Montgomery County, PA. 
 
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 194 days/year, Part-Time or Full-Time
Part-time schedule: 4-6 hours/day (morning, mid-day, and afternoon routes)
Full-time schedule: 7.5 hours/day (full-time Van Drivers may be required to spend a portion of their day in a classroom, supporting our student facing programs)

Hourly Rate:
Starting at $23.75/hour
