JANITOR The Janitor is to perform and oversee a variety of janitorial, custodial, and/or security tasks to maintain clean and safe buildings and grounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to communicate well, both orally and written
- Good physical condition; i.e., able to walk, stand, lift at least 40 pounds, and stoop/bend for long periods
- Diplomatic, congenial manner; neat, well-groomed appearance
- High School Diploma or equivalent
REPORTS TO:
Principal and Maintenance Supervisor
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job functions shall include but not be limited to the following:
? Check all outside locks to secure the building during the day and make sure to lock all outside doors before leaving the building in the afternoon
? Picks up garbage and litter on campus
? Empties hall and campus garbage cans into outside garbage bin
? Keeps garbage cans clean and neat
? Sweeps/blow off outside walkways
? Sweeps and mop halls twice daily
? Sweeps classrooms and all other rooms once daily
? Clean bathrooms thoroughly and replenish bathroom supplies as needed
? Keep front yard clean
? Check playground equipment for safety
? Clean curbs and grates at the building entrances
? Wet mop halls as needed
? Replace light bulbs and pencil sharpeners
? Hang pictures, bulletin boards, chalkboards and display racks
? Clean fans and filters of air conditioners and heating units
? Wash windows and blinds
? Load, unload, and move books, equipment, materials, and furniture
? Set up and take down chairs and tables for school functions
? Trim shrubbery and grass along walkways
- The janitor will use the summer months to thoroughly clean the school. There will also be various maintenance projects that will need to be done which are not mentioned above. Prior to summer vacation the janitor, principal and maintenance supervisor will work out a summer maintenance and cleaning schedule
- Any other related job duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or their designee.

- “At-Will” position
- Full-time workers are employed 12 months
- Salaries are established by Board policy
EVALUATION:
Performance for this position will be evaluated annually by the Principal and Maintenance Supervisor in accordance with the Board’s policies and procedures on evaluation.
