  •   The MCSD teacher is a highly qualified instructional leader and is responsible for teaching skills and concepts within specified course content. The teacher will have specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
    • Hold at least an active/valid Class “A” teaching license issued by the Mississippi Department of Education and endorsed in the field of instruction to which he/she is assigned
    • Meet all other qualifications/requirements as established by the school district
    • Meet all other requirements as established by the Early Learning Collaborative (Pre-K Endorsement)
    • Demonstrate strong knowledge of content and subject-matter
    • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficient in basic computer applications in a professional capacity
     
    REPORTS TO:
    Principal and/or his/her Designee
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
    The teacher shall:
    A. Provide learning experiences for students commensurate with their ability and interest and which promote high expectations for all students.
    B. Develop written lesson plans containing specific performance objectives based on the current Common Core State Standards curriculum framework.
    C. Monitor student performance by becoming thoroughly familiar with the student’s records and utilizing test data to improve instruction.
    D. Administer and develop subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual lesson plans.
    E. Demonstrate and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student needs.
    F. Provide a safe, orderly atmosphere conducive to learning.
    G. Develop and maintain a classroom discipline plan in keeping with MCSD policies and procedures.
    H. Be responsible for active supervision of students inside and outside the classroom (e.g. classroom, playground, hallways, restrooms, fieldtrips, bus loading zones, etc.) as required by MCSD policy.
    I. Report and respond to incidents and situations (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, bullying, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state and local policies.
    J. Assist in selecting resources, supplies, materials, textbooks, and equipment to enhance learning.
    K. Participate in professional and staff development activities.
    L. Cooperate with local and district staff in planning and implementing system-wide goals and objectives.
    M. Attend regular and called faculty meetings.
    N. Keep accurate records and provide students with timely feedback on completed assignments.
    O. Upgrade teaching certificate as required by state certification standards and local policy.
    P. Be punctual and conscientious in school attendance and participate in school related and athletic functions as assigned by the principal.
    Q. Clear any absence, as far in advance as possible, with the principal or his/her designee.
    R. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and regulations, administrative procedures, and School board policies.
    S. Effectively communicate with parents and students and provide timely feedback on course assignments and requirements.
    T. Assist in the continuing development of subject area curriculum objectives.
    U. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
    V. Be cognizant of the rules and regulations, policies, and procedures governing special education programs within the school district. Be knowledgeable of the district’s curriculum, Mississippi Common Core State Standards, Pacing Guides, and the Mississippi assessment System in his/her subject area(s).
    W. Participate cooperatively in the supervision-evaluation process (MSTAR) for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement.
    X. Assist other teachers in the instructional improvement process.
    Y. Work collegially with other teachers in the sharing of ideas and skills.
    Z. Participate with all State and District testing as assigned.
    AA. Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program.
    BB. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal, in order to contribute to an effective school operation.
