Job Description: School Nutrition Assistant Substitute
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED preferred. Must be literate and able to read and understand written directions or warnings. Must be able to lift and move 25 lbs without help. Must be able to work in typical kitchen conditions which involve exposure to hot water, steam, heat, cold, detergents and cleaning solutions. Must be able to stand and walk on hard floors for 6-7 hours at a time. Must have good work attendance, positive attitude and willingness to learn new job skills.
Reports To: School Nutrition Manager
Job Summary: A school nutrition assistant substitute, under supervision of a school nutrition manager, meets the nutritional needs of students by performing assigned duties in kitchen, cafeteria and school areas on a substitute basis when employees are out. Typically, permanent positions are filled from the pool of substitute workers.
Job Functions:
- Practices established sanitation and safety procedures
- Follows manager's instruction in production and serving of food
- Maintains required production forms and records as assigned by manager
- Assists with proper storage of food
- Participates in implementing cost efficiency while maintaining quality and safety of food
- Uses time efficiently
- Participates with promotion of the school nutrition program through special activities and nutrition education
- Attends mandated job-related training classes and workshops
- Follows proper procedures in personnel matters, including grievances, leave, etc.
- Demonstrates the ability to work with the school community in a professional and caring way
- Follows the school nutrition department dress code during work hours
- Exhibits good attendance habits with a minimum of missed days or tardies

Work Days: Varies, in relation to school calendar
Work Hours: Varies, usually between 6:00 AM to 2:45 PM
