Qualifications:
• Minimum education of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required
• Must possess a valid Missouri State operator’s license
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check
• Must be able to carry approximately twenty (20) pounds a distance of fifty (50) yards
• Must be able to speak clearly and communicate with children and adults
• Must be able to learn computer time entry for payroll purposes
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate or acceptable

Reports to:
Director of Public Safety
 
Job Goal:
Facilitates the movement of buses to maintain their scheduled routes and school start times.
 
Performance Responsibilities:
• Stop traffic in both directions on two lane city streets in front of elementary schools in all types of weather conditions
• Determine when children can safely cross the street with traffic present
• Observe and report any safety hazards or suspicious activity to the building Principal or Director of Public Safety
• Demonstrate dependability by being on time
• Display a good attitude, work ethic and ability to make good decisions regarding controlling traffic and the safety of children
• Ability to focus on duties amid numerous distractions
• Pleasant, outgoing personality
• Complete other duties as defined and assigned
 
Terms of Employment:
The Safety Officer will be employed for a nine (9) month position.  The salary and the work year will be established annually by the Board of Education.
 
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy by the immediate supervisor, utilizing the Independence School District Crossing Guard Performance Based Evaluation.

Reports to:
Director of Public Safety

Job Goal:
To provide armed security at events or locations to help ensure a safe environment for students, staff and the public.

Performance Responsibilities:
• Observe audience during activities to prevent disturbances before they happen
• Remain on post until relieved or end of duty
• Pleasant, outgoing personality
• Deter or prevent crimes
• Arrest and detain those who choose to violate state and local laws
• Complete accurate reports when and if an incident occurs that requires documentation
• Demonstrate dependability by being on time
• Display a good attitude, work ethic and ability to make good decisions regarding crowd control and maintaining a safe environment.
• Complete other duties as defined and assigned.

Terms of Employment
Off-duty Police Officers will be employed for a nine (9) month position. The work year will be established annually by the Board of Education and the salary is established by the Memorandum of Understanding with the Independence Police Department and salary scale determined by the Kansas City, MO Police Department.
