JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Curriculum will provide leadership, supervision, and coordination of the total educational program, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, and all related staff development within the district; coordinates all aspects of federal and state grants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Hold or be eligible for a valid New Jersey School Principal or Supervisor Certificate.
Hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Have at least five (5) years of successful teaching experience and two (2) years of administrative experience as a Supervisor, Director or Vice Principal.
Demonstrate leadership in school improvement, program development, curriculum integration, and application of technology across the curriculum.
Demonstrate knowledge of current trends and research-proven strategies in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, assessments.
Experience in collaborating with staff to plan, organize, and implement professional development.
Demonstrate leadership in budget development, fiscal responsibility, data-analysis and coordination assessment programs.
Demonstrate ability to coordinate grant processes (evaluations, budget, reports, applications) for purposes of ensuring compliance with all grant requirements.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:

Oversees a well-articulated educational program that is current, comprehensive, and consistent with Hackensack Public Schools Vision and Mission, and ensures the implementation of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
Provides educational leadership and coordination in the development of curriculum (PreK – 12) and the implementation of instructional programs including the evaluation of classroom instruction on a regular basis.
Establishes an appropriate framework for curriculum documents, procedures and criteria for the evaluation of curriculum, and a schedule for curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Ensures the integration of all instructional programs with special emphasis on vertical articulation and continuity.
Works closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to support school improvement initiatives and processes.
Assists in the development and coordination of the budget as it relates to curriculum, instruction.
Coordinates the curriculum review process utilizing multiple measures of data in order to study, research, recommend and evaluate existing and new programs for modification and implementation.
Coordinates planning and development of innovative curriculum programs, including visual and performing Arts, STEAM and Gifted and Talented.
Supervises and coordinates curriculum, textbook, and instructional media selection and adoption process, including submission to the Superintendent for subsequent Board of Education approval.
Observes and evaluates the quality of instruction of teachers in all content areas and makes recommendations for continued employment of teachers, in accordance with code and Board policy.
Attends all regular Board of Education meetings and participates in relevant administrative meetings conducted by the Superintendent.
Coordinates all Grants under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Collaborates with all school administrators on the selection of testing instruments, the design of assessments and the use of testing data to drive instruction.
Serves as the District Test Coordinator, organizes and oversees the State and Standardized Testing Program and other assessment and activities to evaluate student progress and program effectiveness.
Collaborates with all administrators to collect, analyzes and interprets assessment results for dissemination to the Board of Education and the public.
Maintains a collaborative working relationship with district administrators to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts, and overall support for the decision-making process.
Protects the confidentiality of student data, and all records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties, and use discretion in sharing such information, within legal confines.
Observes strictly to avoid the appearance of conflict, all requirement of the School Ethics Act (N.J.S.A. 18A:12-21 et seq.) regarding conflicts of interest in employment, purchasing, and other decisions, including solicitation and acceptance of gifts and favors, and submit in a timely fashion the required annual disclosure statement regarding employment and financial interests.
Adheres to New Jersey School Law, State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Board of Education Policies, Regulations and Procedures, and contractual obligations.

2. Hold a New Jersey teaching and supervisor endorsement (N.J.A.C. 6:11-9.3 and 9.6) in the respective field.
3. Must hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

9. Ensures that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
