    Title:  Anticipated Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist


    Description: The Preschool Instructional Intervention and Referral Specialist provides in-classroom support to help preschool teachers further develop their classroom practice through the following ways:
    • Schedule regular classroom visitations: model, observe, coach and provide feedback to teachers;
    • Develop, facilitate and present staff development instruction;
    • Maintain activity log;
    • Coordinate planning, time management, meeting deadlines;
    • Establish high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior;
    • Assist preschool teachers to plan and implement sequential learning experiences for students using a variety of instructional strategies, consistent with the district and school’s philosophy, mission statement, instructional goals, school level objectives and the Preschool Standards. The learning experiences shall follow and use approved curricula and instructional materials.
    • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community;
    • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary;
    • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications; and
    • Facilitate transition of students to Kindergarten.
    Qualifications:
    • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree preferred.
    • Hold a New Jersey instructional certificate in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 18A:27.1 et seq., and N.J.A.C. Title 6 Chapter 11 with an Early Childhood Education endorsement, and other appropriate endorsement(s) for the position held (N.J.A.C. 6:11-6.1,6.2 or 8.1 et seq.).
    • A bachelor's degree and preschool through grade three (P-3) teacher certification, required.
    • Have a minimum of 3-5 years teaching in general education and special education preschool programs.
    • Endorsement for teacher of students with disabilities or teacher of the handicapped preferred but not required.
    • Earned excellent teacher evaluation ratings;
    • Have a background in providing professional development through workshops and/or mentoring.
    • Have experience with developmentally appropriate early childhood assessments.
    • Has experience with the Pyramid Model
    • Experience with performance-based preschool assessments (Teaching Strategies Gold Online, Student Portfolios, ESI=3, Brigance Early Childhood Screens III for 3-5 year olds);
    • Ability to use technology to assist in lesson planning, record keeping and data organization;
    • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of early childhood education, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning and students needing to learn early childhood education.
    • Have the ability to implement developmentally appropriate curricula and structured teaching practices for the preschool teacher.
    • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
    • Work year of ten months, plus twenty days in the summer.
    • Salary or hourly wage, benefits, and leave time as per the HEA Bargaining Agreement.
    • Conditions established by all laws and codes of the State, and all policies, rules, and regulations established by the Board of Education (N.J.S.A. 18A:27-4 et seq.).

    Working Conditions: District Location, however, the Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist travels to all district schools with preschool classes as well as private preschool providers that the district
    contracts with.

    Salary:  As per HBOE/HEA Agreement; 100% funded by Preschool Education State Aid
