POSITION TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist
Department: Special Education
Reports To: Director of Special Services & Related Services Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for screening, diagnosing, and providing therapy for students with speech and language disorders. The primary goal is to help students overcome communication challenges that may impact their educational progress.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
Provide targeted interventions for students with speech and language needs within the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) framework.
Conduct diagnostic assessments and recommend appropriate services for students with speech-language disorders.
Complete all necessary paperwork for students entering the speech therapy program.
Collaborate with parents, administrators, and teachers to develop and review IEP goals and make adjustments to student placement as needed.
Schedule and deliver individual or group therapy sessions for students on your caseload.
Prepare and submit progress reports for students’ speech and language development at interim and quarterly intervals.
Keep detailed records, including therapy logs, student attendance, and speech files, to ensure compliance with school and legal requirements.
Complete Medicaid-related forms and follow necessary procedures for eligible students.
Participate in professional development opportunities, such as conferences and in-service training, to stay informed on best practices, evidence-based strategies, and regulatory updates.
Complete the ADEPT mentoring and evaluation process as required.
Set and work towards achieving professional goals related to speech and language development.
Provide teachers and parents with resources and strategies to support students' communication skills within the classroom and daily activities.
Carry out other responsibilities as directed by the Related Services Coordinator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise students and fulfill additional supervisory duties as assigned by the building principal, Director of Special Services, or Related Services Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate must be able to meet the following qualifications:
Knowledge of speech-language impairments and best practices for supporting students with disabilities.
Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues while demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
South Carolina Licensure (SC-LLR) as a Speech-Language Pathologist or Speech-Language Pathologist Intern.
SC Teaching Certification.
A Master's Degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) or completion of Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY).
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret professional materials, such as research articles, assessment manuals, and technical documents.
Skilled in writing clear reports, procedure manuals, and professional correspondence.
Capable of addressing inquiries or concerns from parents, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders in a professional and constructive manner.

REASONING ABILITY:
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to gather data, analyze information, and draw valid conclusions.
WORK DAYS & SALARY:
190 Days/Salary based on Teacher Salary Schedule
