Location - When it comes to location, Gainesville is second to none. We are located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the 19th largest City in the state with a population of 35,000 people. We are located approximately 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, Georgia, 100 miles southwest of Greenville, South Carolina and surrounded on three sides by Lake Lanier. Gainesville is the largest of six cities in Hall County with a population of more than 35,000. As the business hub for Northeast Georgia, Gainesville's daytime population is estimated in excess of 100,000.

Georgia Charter District -: Gainesville City School System was one of the first four charter systems in Georgia and earned its charter status in June 2008. In 2013, the district received a ten year charter - which extends to June 2023. As a charter system, our Board of Education utilizes flexibility in local school governance to provide innovative learning environments for approximately 8,000 students. Our highly diverse student body includes: 59% Hispanic, 18% African American Americans, 16% Caucasian, and 3% Asian and 4% Multi-racial.

Elementary Schools
All elementary schools utilize a common curriculum based on the Georgia Standards of Excellence. Each elementary school provides a unique focus that recognizes individual student needs and interests. Families have the opportunity to select their school of choice through the enrollment process. A full range of expanded learning opportunities are provided both during the school day and after school.
- Centennial Arts Academy: Arts Integrated Learning with a focus on Performance Arts, home to approximately 827 students in pre- kindergarten through fifth grades.
- Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy: Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences extended through a Smartville School Design, home to approximately 746 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades
- Fair Street International Baccalaureate School: Authorized IB Program for Primary Years, home to approximately 479 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades
- Gainesville Exploration Academy: STEM Integration in Arts and Inquiry Learning, home to approximately 547 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades
- Mundy Mill Learning Academy: Accelerated Schools Plus Philosophy where we establish a unity of purpose, build on the strengths of students, and empower students to make decisions while holding them accountable for their actions, home to approximately 618 students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grades
- New Holland Knowledge Academy: Focus on classical knowledge and literacy, home to approximately 577 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades

Secondary Schools
Our secondary schools are focused on high school graduation and college and career readiness. Rigorous course offerings include Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment and Work-based Learning options in order to provide a solid foundation for students. A large number of exploratory and elective offerings allow students to pursue a variety of interests and create a personalized middle and high school experience.
- Gainesville Middle School is home to approximately 1,759 students in grades 6th through 8th grades
- Gainesville High School also operates a 9th Grade Center and is home to approximately 2,172 students in grades 9th through 12 grades
