Position Title: EL SPECIALIST at HS/Elementary School (1.0 FTE) .3 Summit HS and .7 Cromer Elementary
Supervisor: Director Bilingual Education/Summit HS and Cromer Elementary Principals
Department: Equity, Inclusion & Support
2025-2026 School Year: 1.0 FTE; Benefits offered; Start date: 7/29/2025 or, if new to the district, 07/23/2025.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: Demonstrate the competencies and behaviors needed to improve student preparedness and mastery and to support the core values, vision, and mission of the Flagstaff Unified School District.
Description: The Bilingual/ EL Department is looking for a collaborative and dynamic leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills to support EL students in small group settings. Responsibilities include collaborating with and working alongside EL Specialists and classroom teachers in best practices for language learner instruction; Managing and administering state-required assessments and monitoring documents in a timely manner; Planning and implementation of Focused ELP lessons; Facilitating small-group daily lessons; Securing documentation for state and federal monitoring of program; Collaborating with principals, teachers, and staff to provide an optimal instructional program for ELs and former ELs.
Job Summary: - Maintain and develop professional skills and knowledge of EL issues and techniques by attending district meetings, conferences, researching, networking, reading, and through continuing education
- Monitor the academic and linguistic progress of ELs and former ELs and make instructional recommendations based upon student data
- Use district-identified assessment tools to facilitate training of instructional staff in the use, triangulation & disaggregation of data for data-driven instructional planning
- Engage teachers in collaborative and reflective classroom practices for ELs
- Facilitate meaningful professional development strategies for teachers and administrators in instruction that will impact acquisition of skills for ELs
- Model EL strategies through peer coaching
- Deliver research-based, differentiated instruction and interventions to ELs
- Conduct and/or assist with the administration of formative and summative assessments for ELs and former ELs
- Participate in and provide recommendations at Individual Data Meetings for all ELs and former ELs being considered for Special Education screenings
- Assist with state program compliance review
- Facilitate EL parent/school interaction opportunities
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: AZ Elementary Teacher Certificate. SEI certification required. Full ESL or bilingual endorsement preferred. Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Three years teaching experience with EL population, knowledge of best practices in the field of teaching and working with socioeconomically disadvantaged students and communities, ability to demonstrate effective standards-based instruction of ELs through scientifically research- based teaching methods; ability to study, disaggregate, analyze and draw conclusions about ELP scores and student achievement data; excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to model and coach best instructional practices for teachers of ELs; ability to deliver high-quality research-based instruction to EL students; self-directed, ability to take initiative; committed to supporting the goals of the school and district; technology skills including data base management and online assessment; standardized test administration experience.

LETTER OF INTENT: If you choose to apply, but have not yet met the certification criteria as outlined above, your application may still be considered.
