Position Description
Position Title: Social Worker
Department: Student Support Services
Supervisor: Director, Student Support Services and Building Administrator
Contract: 9 Month/186 days; Licensed Professional Salary Schedule

QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), or Masters of Social Work (MSW), or licensed in a related field.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Provide comprehensive school social work services to parents, students and school staff. Address barriers that limit a student from receiving full benefit from their educational experience. Respond to referrals from school administration, parents, teachers, and others by providing direct services and by assisting families in accessing appropriate community resources.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
Follow up with students referred to counseling office for mental health concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, suicidal gestures, etc.
Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis prevention and intervention to both individual and large-scale events.
Assist parents and students in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.
Assess environmental factors that impact individuals and groups and remove identified barriers.
Provide services with cultural sensitivity for all diverse and vulnerable populations (i.e. those living in poverty, experiencing trauma, living with a disability, experiencing homelessness or criminal justice involvement, refugee and migrant populations).
Follow up with students returning to campus after hospitalization for behavioral health reasons.
Maintain an ongoing relationship with community agency liaisons and other resources to meet student needs and make appropriate referrals.
Assist with mediation for conflict resolution and anger management lessons with students.
Participate in professional development activities at the district, state and federal levels, aimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensive school social work services.
Develop and implement professional development training for educational staff and parents, as requested.
Based on school data, collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, and advocate for responsive interventions to meet the needs of students and families in order to help the system respond effectively to individual student/community needs.
Perform related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Knowledge and skills for direct and indirect intervention including:
Understanding of the knowledge, skills, and processes for effective casework practice.
Understanding of the school social work profession including associated laws, ethical issues, professional issues and standards.
Understanding of child development, psychosocial and environmental conditioning, cultural diversity and family systems.
Consulting with administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals about student problems and appropriate change strategies.
Networking with school programs and community agencies to provide essential services for families and children.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor office environment. Contact with the public, employees, children and parents.
PHYSICAL TASKS
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required to perform the aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting and moving for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, bending, holding and grasping objects. Verbal communication ability required.
EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS
Uses office equipment which includes but is not limited to: computers, video projectors, whiteboards, and office or instructional equipment. FUSD recognizes that ever changing development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of changing technology opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them.
MENTAL TASKS
Communicates verbally and in writing. Reads. Analyze and evaluate progress of students. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Manages own office and work environment. Promotes learning and ensures safety. Perform functions from written and oral instruction and from observing and listening to others.
