Physical Education Teacher
Job Goal:
Appropriate interaction with all students and their parents, and work in close collaboration with other teachers within the department, fellow "specials" teachers, all faculty/staff, and the school administration. Review the existing K-8 physical education and health curriculum and make recommendations for enhancement, as appropriate. Demonstrate strong teaching skills, exceptional organization, appropriate classroom management dexterity, and be child-centered in all aspects of the position. Develop in each student an understanding of the relationship between good body function and exercise; motivate each student to cultivate physical fitness, proper hygiene, and age-appropriate social and emotional adjustment; discover and develop the physical potential of each student; develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in physical activities and sports. Provide content and relevant learning experiences within an age-appropriate comprehensive health education program.

Description of Duties:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts of health and physical education, safety, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
- Plan and execute health education instruction including, but not limited to the following broad areas: promotion of health and disease prevention concepts and health-enhancing behaviors; effects of the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; and biological, social, cultural, and psychological aspects of human sexuality and family life
- Provide differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs of your students
- Organize and administer physical fitness testing, at least twice per school year
- Plan and execute physical education instruction including, but not limited to movement concepts and skills for life-long physical activities
- Provide adaptive physical education activities for students with IEPs or Section 504 Plans, as appropriate. Participate in staffing with colleagues and parents
- Submit lesson plans to the Principal or designee as required
- Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, aligned with the school district-approved policies and procedures
- Regular communication with parents; maintain an individual webpage on the school website
- Maintain all instructional spaces, including the outdoor facilities with the health and safety of the students and staff in mind. Report any unsafe conditions to school officials
- Complete all records and reports required by law and as requested by the school administration in a timely manner
- Engage in budgetary discussions with the Principal, and prepare orders for the purchase of equipment and supplies, including physical education uniforms for students. Maintain a current inventory of all equipment and supplies
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees, as appropriate
- Contribute to fostering a spirit of team and collaboration with all faculty and staff
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Passion for working with K-8th grade students
- Illinois Certified/Endorsed to Teach Physical Education and Health
- NCLB "Highly Qualified" by having taken and passed the Elementary/Middle School Test
- Hold and maintain a CPR and First Aid Certification a plus
- Excellent communication skills
- Adept at consistently incorporating technology within instruction
- Certification in Adaptive Physical Education a plus
- Qualified and interested in coaching interscholastic sports a plus
Reports to:
Middle School Science reports directly to the Principal and/or designee
Terms of Employment:
School calendar as annually adopted by the Board of Education
Salary and benefits as defined within the teachers' contract and salary schedule
Start Date:
New Hire Orientation - August 7 and August 8, 2024. Teacher Institute Days - August 12 and August 13, 2024. First day of school - August 14, 2024. Hours are 8 am-3 pm, Monday- Friday, except on days when there is a staff meeting, mentoring meeting, a committee meeting, which goes until 4 pm. Late hours for P/T conferences and Parent Literacy or Math Night as well as 8th Grade Graduatio are required.

Salary: $48,851..00 - $67,262 per year dependent on years of experience. The District will give up to 10 years of credit for experience.

**Opportunities are available for After School Tutoring and Summer School at a rate of $55.00 an hour. Potential opportunity for coaching and club sponsors, which are stipend positions per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
**Individuals who help with translation throughout the school year will receive a $600.00 stipend per year.
**Individuals with an ESL endorsement receive a one-time stipend of $2000.00.
