HEAD COACH
JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Head Coach (High School, Middle School, Youth School)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Wyoming PTSB Coaching Certificate/Permit
Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport
Have substantial knowledge of the technical and fundamental aspects of the sport
REPORTS TO: The Activities Director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation, in conjunction with the High School Principal, Middle School Principal, and or Elementary Principal.
SUPERVISES: The head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of High School coaches, Middle School coaches, and Youth coaches in conjunction with the Activities Director and respective building principal.
JOB GOAL: To carry out the aims and objectives of the sport program as outlined by the Athletic Department and Board of Education. To instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. Enforce training rules and any other policies pertinent to athletics and school operations. Head coach is responsible for the total day to day operation of the program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF HEAD COACH:
Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policy approved by the Fremont County #14 Board of Trustees and is responsible for its implementation.
Has knowledge of the existing system, state and league regulations; implements it consistently.
Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels. Is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings that require attendance.
Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within school sports program.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
Plans transportation to tournaments and special sporting events.
Assumes responsibility for scheduling and development of sporting events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees.
Provides documentation to the Activities Director to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, eligibility, etc.
Assists in providing proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
Conducts orientation programs for parents, athletes, and coaches
Develop procedures for open communication with athletes and parents.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO STUDENTS:
Enforces proper training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant by presence at all practices, games, and while traveling. Provides guidelines to safeguard each participant.
Develops procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary.
Establish dialogue with athletes and parents to address issues or concerns.
Monitor athlete attendance, behavior, and academic status. Contacts parents when is student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES:
Responsible for all equipment management including keeping inventory and ordering.
Prepares and oversee program budget.
Monitors equipment rooms and coaches’ offices and authorizes who may enter.
Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility. Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
Secures all doors lights, windows, and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property (i.e. care, proper use, storage, cleaning, etc.)
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates with Activities Director and administrator when making press releases and school announcements.
Communicates changes in the rules and teaches the fundamentals of the sport.
Maintains a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering.
Arrives early enough before practice, contests, and meetings to adequately prepare and remains long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
Responsible for planning and implementation of both in season and out of season conditioning and weight programs.
Never criticizes, admonishes, or argues with any staff member within ears and eyes of players and parents.
Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using resources made available by the Activities Director.
Attends most of the contests, when possible, of other teams in the program.
Performs such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position that may be requested by the Activities Director/Administrator.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of staff.
