JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Exceptional Children Generalist K-12
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid State Teacher Certification Granted by the Professional Teaching Standards Board for Exceptional Children Generalist K-12.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited teacher preparation program
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Special Education Director
JOB GOAL: To assist, as a member of a professional team, in diagnosing the learning impairments of children teaching them an individualized remedial curriculum and testing the effectiveness of various innovative or creative teaching techniques.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches small classes of children identified with a disability.
Team teachers with teachers in a regular classroom environment.
Confirms that diagnosis or suggests an alternative diagnoses as a result of careful observation and experience.
Devises and experiments with innovative teaching methods, strategies, techniques, and learning materials in an ongoing attempt to extend the possible approaches to working effectively with students of impaired learning ability.
Case manages students placed on caseload.
Acts as liaison with the home school when a child is being transferred back to his/her home school after completing his/her stay in a diagnostic class, recommending the specific techniques which have worked best with the child to the appropriate teacher.
Maintains professional competence through in-service, workshops, and other professional development activities.
Serves as a consultant to the district’s professional staff on materials pertaining to the education of children with learning impairments.
Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
Provides individualized, small group, and differentiated instruction in order to meet the needs of each pupil.
Establishes and maintains acceptable standards of pupil behavior by establishing and clearly communicating parameters for student classroom behavior and managing disruptive behavior.
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils’ progress and interpret the school program.
Participates in the IEP process as appropriate and as required by law.
Supervises pupils during both in out of the classroom during the assigned working day.
Administers appropriate tests and/or assessments.
Participates in curriculum development committees as required.
Participates in faculty meetings, committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
Adheres to all applicable laws, policies, and regulations governing the operation of Fremont County School District #14.
Other duties as may be, from time to time, assigned by the Building Principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Length of contract to be determined by Board of Trustees.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of staff.
