JOB SUMMARY: Plans and prepares meals that meet federal, state and district requirements. Ensures meals are prepared and served correctly by managing employees during meal preparation and serving times.
JOB TASKS: Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. Directs the preparation of meals for breakfast and lunch according to their specific food and quantity requirements by following Federal, State and District requirements.
2. Completes building level records such as: - Daily meal evaluations and reports. - Special event forms. - Verifications of delivery invoices and payroll vouchers - Monthly and yearly inventories.
3. Supervises building level food service staff by: - Scheduling staff. - Assigning and directing work. - Monitoring food preparation to ensure that sanitary procedures are followed. - Evaluating and training staff. - Monitoring cashiers.
4. Obtains substitute personnel as needed in the absence of permanent employees.
5. Calculates and prepares projected total meals to be served according to the menu.
6. Submits requisitions for food, produce and USDA commodities to the Food Service Office and independent vendors.
7. Assists, verifies and monitors receiving and storing of all food items and supply products.
8. Maintains and monitors the food service equipment to ensure safety standards and procedures are followed.
9. Supervises/assists during meal preparation to ensure meals are ready at serving time .
10. Ensures that food temperatures are in accordance to safety and sanitation requirements and follows HACCP Food Safety Plan.
11. Schedules and prepares food and beverage for special events as necessary.
12. Supervises, prepares, delivers, and sets up special events for staff and administration.
13. Promotes through personal attendance continuing education in all aspects of school nutrition. 14. Regular attendance and participation in the following meetings: - Food service meetings with food service supervisor. - Monthly meeting with kitchen staff to update staff members with current information regarding kitchen and cafeteria.
15. Supervises the annual opening and closing of the food preparation area: - Inventory small supplies, equipment, and food. - Appropriately clean and sanitize all food preparation areas. - Appropriately clean and store all equipment and utensils.
16. Promotes child nutrition education to staff and students.
17. Trains and monitors staff on proper techniques cleaning of equipment, utensils, supplies.
18. Performs other duties of a similar nature as apparent or assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: This position is not sedentary work. The following activities are required: - Fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and walking. - Lifting 10-25 lbs daily; up to 50 lbs. weekly. - Walking and standing are required most of the time.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING: Must be certified at a level 3 through School Nutrition Association (SNA) and maintain the certificate through recertification yearly. In addition, shall have or achieve a Food Managers certificate
