  •   These positions work on an as needed basis.  There is no guarantee of work hours.  Hourly rate is $15.00.



    Purpose:                      The Interpreter assists in the operation of student support services within the school attendance centers.  To accomplish these tasks, the Interpreter works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.
     
    Responsible to:           Principal or Classroom Teacher
     
    Payment rate:              As established by the Emporia Board of Education
     
    Qualifications:
    1.   High school diploma or equivalent. 
    2.   Proficient bilingual skills
    3.   Able to interpret and translate language with understanding.
    4.   Ability to interpret at a normal conversation rate.
    5.   Desire to continue career improvement.
    6.   Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
    7.   Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
     
    Essential Functions:
    1.   Assist professional staff in supportive services.
    2.   Ensure that all programs and activities conform to district guidelines.
    3.   Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
    4.   Recognize, interpret and translate information into primary language of the person to whom is being spoken.
    5.   React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
    6.   Support the value of an education.
    7.   Support the vision and mission of USD No. 253.
     
    Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
    1.   Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
    2.   Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
    3.   Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
    4.   Occasionally requires climbing and balancing
    5.   Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
    6.   Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
     
    General Responsibilities:
    1. Serve as an interpreter for students and/or parents during meetings, enrollment, etc.
    2. Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies and other groups.
    3. Observe district policies at all times.
    4. Support and facilitate the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.
    5. Provide interpreting for situations that are part of the educational program that occur outside of the school environment.
    6. Interpret at extracurricular activities.   
    7. Consult with staff and parents regarding interpreter services.
    8. Keep accurate and current records of services and progress regarding each student.
    9.   Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
    10. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
    11. Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
    12. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
    13. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
    • Acceptable use of technology
    • Sexual and racial harassment
    • Child abuse reporting
    • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
    14. Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces.
    15. Respond to change in a productive manner.
    16. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
    17. Other duties as assigned by the Instructor, Principal, or other Administrative staff.
