  •   Base hourly rate is $29.25. Compensation for level of education and past work-related experience may be granted.

    Purpose:                      The Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) is to provide direct/consultative services to children who exhibit motor and/or sensory problems interfering with their ability to function within the school environment.  To accomplish these tasks, the COTA must work closely with the Registered Occupational Therapist, parents, teachers and the employees of the school district and special education cooperative.
     
    Responsible to:           Executive Director of Special Services
     
    Payment rate:              As established by the Emporia Board of Education
     
     
    Qualifications:
    1. Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy assistant program.
    2. Current NBCOT certification in good standing.
    3. Current registration as an occupational therapy assistant through the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts in good standing.
    4. A minimum of two years supervised experience with children preferred.
    5. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
    6. Desire to continue career improvement.
     
    Essential Functions:
    1. Provide direct/consultative occupational therapy services to children who exhibit motor and/or sensory problems interfering with their ability to function within the school environment.
    2. Ensure that all programs and activities conform to district guidelines.
    3. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
    4. Work effectively with community organizations.
    5. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
    6. Support the value of an education.
    7. Support the vision and mission of USD 253.
     

     
    Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

     
    1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
    2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
    3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
    4. Requires traveling.
    5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
    6. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
     

     
    General Responsibilities:

     
    1. Support and facilitate the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.
    2. Provide direct or consultative occupational therapy services when appropriate. 
    3. Consult with staff and parents regarding occupational therapy services.
    4. Perform yearly reassessments under the supervision of an OTR.
    5. Update goals and objectives under the supervision of an OTR.
    6. Provide supervision to paraeducators as required by state guidelines.
    7. Consult with the referring physician regarding student’s occupational therapy progress as indicated.
    8. Keep accurate and current records of services and progress regarding each student.
    9. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
    10. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
    11. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    12. Assist in fabricating, adapting, securing, and repairing special devices needed by the student in  order to participate in school.
    13. Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
    14. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
    15. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
      • Acceptable use of technology
      • Sexual and racial harassment
      • Child abuse reporting
      • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
    16. Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces.
    17. Respond to change in a productive manner.
    18. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
    19. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Integrated Services or other administrative staff.
