We are currently hiring for two School Nurse positions. Registered Nurses (RN) are preferred, but we are open to considering Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) as well. If you are passionate about student health and wellness, and meet the necessary qualifications, we encourage you to apply!

Purpose:            The School Nurse provides preventive health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development.   In order to coordinate a comprehensive student health program, the School Nurse must work closely with administration and other staff.
 
Responsible to:              Principal
 
Payment rate:                 Base Salary $43,750
 
Qualifications:
 
1. Bachelor’s degree (Nursing) from an accredited college/university or a diploma from an accredited school of nursing.
2. Current Kansas State Licensure with endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Central Office.
3. Current Kansas Board of Nursing License (Registered Nurse).
4. Two years experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in community health or school nursing.
5. Current certification in hearing and vision screening from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
6. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.

6. Supervise students at school by monitoring hallways and common areas.
7. Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication.
8. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
   • Acceptable use of technology
   • Sexual and racial harassment
   • Child abuse reporting
   • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
9. Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations with regard to student progress/needs.

General Responsibilities:
 
1. Keep building and premises (including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas) neat and clean at all times.
2. Clean classrooms and office floors daily.  Dump pencil sharpeners.  Dump trash and replace bags.  Dust furniture.  Line up desks.  Clean whiteboards.  Clean classroom sinks.
3. Work independently and effectively supervise those under his/her supervision.
4. Clean corridors each day.  Dust locker tops, wash and repair as needed.  Clean drinking fountains daily.
5. Mop restroom floors and clean all sanitary fixtures daily.  Clean mirrors.  Fill soap, towel, and toilet paper dispensers.
6. Clean large classroom/event areas such as gymnasium, cafeteria, multi-purpose room, auditorium, locker room and stage.
7. Replace light bulbs as needed.  Remove gum, tape, and marks from floor and walls throughout the building.  Dust walls as needed.  Clean air return and vent louvers as needed.  Dust window ledges.  Buff and recoat floor as needed.  Wash windows inside and outside at least twice each year, or more frequently if necessary.
8. Maintain walks and driveways for safety.  Sweep, shovel and sand walks as appropriate.
9. Open and close buildings each school day.
10. Monitor HVAC systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.  Report problems to district maintenance office. 
11. Check emergency lights and fire extinguishers, fill in date and initial the tag.
12. Check daily to ensure all doors are properly secured and affixed for emergency exit.
13. Ensure all doors and windows are secured and all lights are turned off (except as necessary for safety reasons) at the close of school each day.
14. Immediately report unauthorized persons to the Principal.
15. Immediately report damaged school property to the Supervisor or Principal.
16. Move furniture or equipment as directed.
17. Make minor building repairs, and promptly report needed major repairs to the Supervisor or Principal.
18. Staff members must not exceed 40 hours in a week.  More than 40 hours may be assigned, but is not authorized without prior approval from the Assistant Superintendent of Business.
19. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.

Responsabilidades Generales:

4. Pasillos limpios todos los días. Quite el polvo de las tapas de los casilleros, lavar y reparar según sea necesario. Limpiar los bebederos diariamente. 
5. Trapear los pisos de los baños y limpie todos los accesorios sanitarios diariamente. Limpiar los espejos. Llenar los dispensadores de jabón, toallas y papel higiénico. 
6. Limpiar áreas grandes de salones/eventos como gimnasio, cafetería, salón de usos múltiples, auditorio, vestuario y escenario. 
7. Reemplazar focos según sea necesario. Retirar la goma de mascar, la cinta adhesiva y las marcas del piso y las paredes de todo el edificio. Quitar el polvo de las paredes según sea necesario. Limpiar las rejillas de ventilación y retorno de aire según sea necesario. Limpiar el polvo de las repisas de las ventanas. Pulir y volver a recubrir el piso según sea necesario. Lavar las ventanas por dentro y por fuera al menos dos veces al año, o con mayor frecuencia si es necesario.  
8. Mantener en buen estado las banquetas/aceras y entradas de los vehículos por seguridad.  Barrer, palear y arenar los caminos según corresponda.
9. Abrir y cerrar edificios cada día escolar. 
10. Monitorear los sistemas HVAC (Sistema de Aire Acondicionado) para proporcionar temperaturas apropiadas para la temporada y garantizar el uso económico de combustible, agua y electricidad. Informar los problemas a la oficina de mantenimiento del distrito.
11. Revisar las luces de emergencia y los extintores de incendios, completar la fecha y poner sus iniciales en la etiqueta.  
12. Verificar diariamente y asegurarse de que todas las puertas estén correctamente aseguradas y fijadas para la salida de emergencia. 
13. Asegurar que todas las puertas y ventanas estén aseguradas y que todas las luces estén apagadas (excepto cuando sea necesario por razones de seguridad) al cierre de la escuela todos los días.

Substitue nurses are called upon to fill in for our elementary, middle and high school nurses on a temporary basis when they must be away from the building for an extended period.   Also assists school nurses with student screenings as needed.
