  •   We are currently hiring for two School Nurse positions. Registered Nurses (RN) are preferred, but we are open to considering Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) as well. If you are passionate about student health and wellness, and meet the necessary qualifications, we encourage you to apply!

    Purpose:           
    The School Nurse provides preventive health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development.   In order to coordinate a comprehensive student health program, the School Nurse must work closely with administration and other staff.
     
    Responsible to:              Principal
     
    Payment rate:                 Base Salary $43,750
     
    Qualifications:
     
    1. Bachelor’s degree (Nursing) from an accredited college/university or a diploma from an accredited school of nursing.
    2. Current Kansas State Licensure with endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Central Office.
    3. Current Kansas Board of Nursing License (Registered Nurse).
    4. Two years experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in community health or school nursing.
    5. Current certification in hearing and vision screening from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
    6. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
     
    Essential Functions:

    • Provide health education and anticipatory guidance
    • Manage student behavior

    • Provide feedback to students; initiate referrals as appropriate

    Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
     
    1.         Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
    2.         Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
    3.         Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
    4.         Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
    5.         Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
     
    General Responsibilities:
     
    1. Support the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.
    2. Assist with the ongoing curriculum revision process as well as other building/district level committee tasks.
    3. Help to sustain the profession by supervising student teachers, observers, paraeducators, and aides.
    4. Provide academic assistance to students before and after regular school hours.
    5. Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the principal.
    6. Supervise students at school by monitoring hallways and common areas.
    7. Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication.
    8. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
      • Acceptable use of technology
      • Sexual and racial harassment
      • Child abuse reporting
      • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
    9. Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations with regard to student progress/needs.
    10. Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating tolerance of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity.
    11. Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance; timely submission of required reports; participate in staff, department, and committee/team meetings; contribute to SIT/IEP activities.
    12. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
    13. Attend/assist with school events; organize/supervise field trips; etc.
    14. Secure and maintain an inventory of materials and resources appropriate to reading levels, learning styles; age appropriate interest; and curricular support of classroom instruction.
    15. Catalogue and supervise the check-out and return of books and materials.
    16. Provide appropriate access to information through a variety of media; assist with local and on-line search of materials/data.
    17. Establish a program of instruction to support the effective and efficient use of library resources.
    18. Maintain a safe, inviting, and well-organized instructional space.
    19. Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan; actively participate in response drills.
    20. Respond to change in a productive manner.
    21. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
    22. Other duties as assigned by the Principal, or other building or district administration.
