TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
PRIMARY SUPERVISOR: PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Shall have a working knowledge of computers.
- Shall have demonstrated people skills to indicate ability to function in a team oriented environment.
- Shall have a high school diploma or GED Certificate as required by Kentucky law.
- Shall have some experience working with children in an organized setting.
- Shall have successful completion of Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment; or completed 2 years of
study at an institution of higher education; or obtained an associates degree (or higher).
JOB GOAL: To assist an on-site director, classroom teacher or other responsible staff member in providing a safe and quality environment for students.
GENERAL DUTIES and PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Shall determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
- Shall present a positive image of the school to parents, and convey to them the school's genuine concern with the education, growth and development of each student.
- Shall seek to establish friendly and cooperative partnerships between home and school.
- Shall work to develop a positive public relationship between the school district and the community.
- Shall carry out assignments in a timely manner without undue checking.
- Shall react positively to directives.
- Shall have a willingness to cooperate with the superintendent, district administrators, principals and staff.
- Shall maintain the confidentiality, both verbally and in written form, of each student's educational records.
- Shall strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Shall take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Shall adhere to School Board of Education Policies and Procedures.
SPECIFIC DUTIES and PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Shall monitor students on a one-to-one basis, in small groups or in large groups to ensure their safety.
- Shall follow procedures to safeguard the health and safety of students.
- Shall assist the on-site director, classroom teacher, or other responsible staff members in planning various activities for the students.
- Shall assist with organizing materials for conducting special training activities.
- Shall promote positive parent and child interactions and activities.
- Shall participate in staff activities and in special training programs.
- Shall perform any other duties related to the position as assigned by the supervisor.
- Shall tutor individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by the teacher.
- Shall maintain records of student progress.
- Shall participate as member of an instructional team including remediation teams.
- Shall prepare and organize lessons as directed by the teacher.
- Shall administer and score a variety of tests according to established guidelines.
- Shall assist in determining English proficiency of identified students.
- Shall assist in administering diagnostic and other tests.
- Shall score and record test information.
- Shall monitor and report behavior of students according to approved procedures.
- Shall report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
- Shall check and assist students with lab work as necessary.
- Shall perform routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials.
- Shall operate copy machines.
- Shall maintain classroom records.
- Shall maintain attendance records.
- Shall provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio- visual equipment, operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting paper and supplies.
- Shall assist in overseeing students while in labs.
- Shall provide for supplies inventory as necessary.
- Shall assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
- Shall confer, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
- Shall contact parents of students who are absent.
- Shall make home visits as necessary.
- Shall assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations.
- Shall direct group activities of students as assigned.
- Shall assist in monitoring lunchroom and playground activities as assigned.
- Shall assist in emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
- Shall participate in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned.
- Shall perform any other duties related to your position as assigned by the supervisor.
