    The position of District School-Based Mental Health Service Provider is designed to provide direct services to students.
    Qualifications:
    • Masters Degree from an accredited University or College – degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling Education or Human Services field.
    • Licensed in the State of Kentucky to provide mental health services.
    Essential Job Functions:
    1. Provides direct mental health services to include intake assessment, individual/family/group therapy to assigned clients.
    2. Meets with families and other interested parties in order to exchange necessary information during the assessment/treatment process.
    3. Acts as client advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
    4. Guides clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with identified problems.
    5. Plans, organizes and leads structured programs of counseling activities for students
    6. Conducts specialized group therapy as necessary (including but not limited to – anger management, bereavement, etc).
    7. Gathers information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy.
    8. Refers students/family to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
    10. Maintains regular contact with the parent/guardian of each client student.
    11. Provides consultation for school staff and administrators regarding mental health issues of clients (as appropriate).
    12. Participates in the collection of mental health information and student outcome data to be used for monitoring the overall performance and effectiveness of services provided.
    13. Provides complete and timely documentation to support services rendered.
    15. Learns about new developments and best practices in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
    16. Other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
    Knowledge/Skills:
    Must possess a strong knowledge of the common mental health topics for school-aged children and possess the skills necessary to facilitate positive change in a school environment.

    SUMMARY:
    The District School-based Mental Health Counselor will be responsible for providing services related to the delivery of mental health care to assigned clients at the designated school location and will provide consultation services to the school staff and administrators to support the overall mental health goals of the client and the school.
