JOB TITLE         Principal

SUMMARY
It is the responsibility of the Principal to provide dynamic leadership for curriculum, instruction, and staff evaluation; to establish clear lines of communication regarding school goals, accomplishments, practices, and policies with students, parents, and      staff members; maintain a facility which is orderly, safe, well-maintained, and conforms, to the extent possible, to the learning needs of students and staff. It is expected that the Principal shall spend more than one-half of his/her time on curriculum and
staff development.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned)
• Studies, develops, and recommends educational goals and programs and operational policies to the Superintendent. 
• Supervises the implementation of all extracurricular and curricular programs. 
• Leads the professional staff in a continuous effort to improve the educational program.
• Recommends to the Executive Director of Human Resources the employment, assignment, promotion, and dismissal of all instructional and non-instructional personnel.
• Supervises and is responsible for the implementation of the evaluation plan and procedures for all certified staff.
• Effectively supervises and manages the building level administrative team to lead the school in continuous improvement.
• Effectively evaluates all assigned building administrators.
• Facilitates the development of the building and departmental budgets under the leadership of the Executive Director of Business Services; monitors monthly departmental budgets, as appropriate.
• Develops and implements programs designed to facilitate parental and community awareness of school activities, policies, procedures, and student achievement.
• Assists the Superintendent with long-range planning designed to maintain an effective educational program for all the District’s students within the financial resources of the District.
• Assists the Superintendent with implementing district and school goals as identified by the Board of Education.
• Maintains an orderly and safe atmosphere in the high school building.
• In collaboration with the Executive Director of Professional Learning and Pathways, oversees the planning for, and implementation of, orientation and staff development programs for all certified staff.
• Provides leadership that ensures curriculum is consistent with the State requirements and District standards, challenges students through rigor and relevance, and utilizes relevant data and other information to determine where learning has occurred and re-teaching is required.  
• Coordinates and writes School Improvement Plan.
• Recommends appropriate textbooks for approval by the Board of Education.
• Assesses the general educational achievement of students in relation to their learning potential and designs/implements programs and practices to positively affect student achievement.
• Resolves faculty and staff interpersonal conflicts in accordance with District policy and in a manner designed to foster cooperation among staff members.
• Recommends building modification and renovation programs to the Superintendent which are designed to ensure an efficient and safe school environment.
• Regularly represents the school at school and community functions.
• Maintains effective working relationships with governmental agencies and institutions, which relate to the school district, as directed by the Superintendent.
• Assumes responsibility for assuring that the practices of the school are in keeping with Federal and State regulations.
• Attends Board of Education meetings as necessary and appropriate.
• Serves as a facilitator for inter-district articulation with District 94’s feeder districts.
• Facilitates and/or participates on Board of Education committees as assigned.
• Assists the Superintendent as necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative Assistant, Directors, Division Heads

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE 
• ISBE PEL with administrative endorsement
• Master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited college/university
• Experience teaching at the high school level, preferred
• Previous administrative experience required
• Previous administrative experience preferred

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in English
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents
• Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Ability to deal with difficult situations courteously and tactfully

PAY TRANSPARENCY
This position offers a starting salary range of $140,000 to $165,000, with the final salary based on experience and qualifications. Pay scale and benefit information is available on our website HERE.

POSITION            Speech-Language Pathologist

JOB SUMMARY
Work within the high school and Transition Services setting to develop and implement speech/language and transition goals for students and to provide direct services to the students.  Provide direct individual and group speech services, coaching and support to staff, and consultative services to identified students with social language, social skills, and communication needs.  
 
• Screening and diagnostic services.
• Direct and consultative services to students with speech-language impairments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

CRITICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Participate in the development and implementation of individual educational plans (IEP) for identified students.
• Remediate speech language deficits involving social communication/language pragmatics, phonology, morphology, semantics, syntax, and or perception; and establish these skills in daily communication.
• Prepare and send reports on student progress to parents on a regular basis. 
• Review student progress toward selected goals at least annually, and schedule tri-annual reevaluations and annual hearing screenings for continuing students.
• Attend and/or lead staffings for students for whom speech-language is their primary service, and meet all mandated deadlines.
• Provide diagnostic testing that includes a) current audiometric screening, b) a review of student’s academic and classroom functioning, c) an evaluation of functional communication skills and d) an assessment of the student’s speech-language problem.
• Interpret test results including evaluations from outside agencies.
• Incorporate academic skills, both written and verbal, whenever possible.
• Provide in-service training and consultation to teachers as needed.
• Recommend and utilize appropriate technology in the provision of speech services.
• Collaborate with colleagues and parents in support of meeting student goals and needs. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Professional Educator License (PEL) with SLP endorsement. 
• Experience working with high school students with autism spectrum disorders preferred.
• Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities and emotional disabilities preferred.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with staff and parents.

POSITION        Program Assistant - Special Education
• Starting rate is $16.37 per hour or $16.89 per hour with a degree
• With 5+ years of experience, starting rate is $18.37 per hour or $18.89 per hour with a degree
• This is a 10 month calendar (8 hours per day)
• This position is covered by the WCHSSSA Collective Bargaining Agreement

FUNCTION
                To assist students with a variety of special needs in regular and special education classrooms.


REQUIREMENTS
• ISBE Paraprofessional Licensure Required (ELS-PARA, STA-PARA, PEL, SUB)

  • A valid and registered teaching license supersedes the need for a separate Paraprofessional license
 
• Prefer experience working with students/youth
• Must be able to work with other staff in a team-oriented manner to best serve the needs of the students
• Must be flexible and willing to work in a variety of settings within the Special Education Department
• Must be organized and possess good record keeping skills
• Experience working with persons with disabilities preferred
• CPR/AED Certification desired
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties and responsibilities may be assigned)
• Attend to personal needs of disabled students including, but not limited to, using prosthetic devices, bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, and bowel/bladder care.  Protect student privacy while doing so.
• Secure or hoist students into necessary equipment such as chairs, slings, stretchers, pool, etc.
• Call for medical services for students when needed.
• Help students embark and debark from buses.
• Escort students to various locations.
• Assist educators and case managers in implementing classroom goals and objectives.
• Perform clerical tasks as requested (i.e. taking attendance, typing, duplicating, making phone calls, and running errands).
• Become familiar with and carry out student accommodation plans; assist students in attaining IEP objectives. 
• Observe, record and chart behavior of students as needed.
• Assist student(s) in learning to become responsible and successful in preparation to adulthood.  
• Provide student assistance during evacuation drills (fire, tornado, crisis, etc.).
• Maintain confidentiality of all student information.
• Provide assistance with daily activities including physical and occupational therapy.
• Assist certified staff with students’ daily/weekly behavior plan.
• Assist with maintaining safety of classroom environment.
• Provide 1-1 assistance with feeding, toileting, personal hygiene, and protecting student privacy.
• Physical transfers to provide 1-1 assistance with feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene.
• Carries out other duties as assigned.
 
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Must be able to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position
• Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in English
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents
• Ability to work independently, stay on task, multi-task, and take responsibility to complete assigned projects and duties in a timely and efficient manner
