District 105 has several openings for a Paraprofessional – Teaching Assistant (Full-time)
Position: PARAPROFESSIONAL-Teaching Assistant
$15.25 per hour with Paraprofessional Educator License;
$16.25 per hour for Para Educators who have earned a teaching degree or
endorsement requiring student teaching from an accredited college or
university
Requirements: Paraprofessional License or
current Illinois Professional Educator License registered in Region 6 or
Short-Term Approval for Paraprofessional. Requirements include:
High School Diploma (or equivalent) or higher, at least 19 years of age,
while working on the approval, the educator must be fulfilling

Job Description: A paraprofessional will assist in the classroom and in all school settings to support students. A paraprofessional will help teachers deliver teacher-developed lessons. When working with students, a paraprofessional must project empathy and positivity while maintaining learning expectations for students. A paraprofessional will assist teachers to minimize classroom disruptions. A paraprofessional must adhere to school rules and policies, and act professionally when dealing with confidential information.
Essential duties:
Classroom
Working with students one-on-one, or in small groups, to implement teacher-generated lessons.
Working with the classroom teachers to organize materials for the students’ comfort or to assist the teacher in setting up the classroom. Implementing the behavior management techniques and/or plans designed by the team.
Assisting students with organizing, supplies, note taking and assignment notebooks.
Monitoring the students on behalf of the teacher for brief intervals.
Physical Needs:
Physically assisting students as specified in their medical or educational plan. This may include activities like using an Epi-Pen, wheelchair or lifting the student, for which a paraprofessional will be trained as needed.
Following the proper procedures for toileting, such as having two staff members in the bathroom, etc.
Following proper feeding protocol when a student plan requires this assistance.
Addressing other hygiene needs as they arise, in consultation with the school nurse.
Escorting students to and from the bus zone or a car pick-up. This may involve boarding students on the bus. (certified staff)
Accompanying students outdoors for recess, or when completing disaster drills or outdoor school activities.
Technology
Developing familiarity with and helping to maintain students’ chromebooks, assistive devices, etc., and submitting HelpDesk tickets when student devices need repairs.
Becoming familiar with computer capabilities as needed--for example, Zoom, Google, Seesaw, etc.
Accessing shared Google documents in order to communicate well with the educational team.
Communication and Teamwork
Attending in-service days, professional learning days, and staff meetings for paraprofessionals.
Communicating well with colleagues and taking direction from different staff members.
Assisting in reaching out to families to encourage participation throughout the day if applicable during a remote or elearning day.
