Qualifications:

 A. High School diploma or GED
 B. Must be able to pass all criminal background checks as required by the district.
 C. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more.
 E.  Must possess the physical ability to assist students.

Reports to:
Transportation Supervisor

Terms of Employment:
The contract length each year will be for 178 days.

Evaluation:
Based on district policy and Department of Education guidelines and performed by the transportation supervisor.

Job Goals:

  To assist the bus driver and students for the safe operation of buses and transportation of eligible students of the Conway Public School District.

Essential Function of the Job:
 
1. Assists the bus driver in loading/unloading students, which may include operation of lifts, locking wheelchairs, securing seat belts, etc.
2. Assists the students in following the directions of the bus driver.
3. Assists the driver in the personal care and management of students.
4. Assists in checking safety equipment daily, prior to starting the route, and ensures proper working condition of all safety equipment.
5. Checks all restraints and wheelchairs securing students safely in place.
6. Assists in keeping the bus clean.
7. Assists the driver in enforcing the rules and regulations for the safety of all students.
8. Assists the driver with behavior issues and helps to maintain a safe and orderly atmosphere on the bus.
9. Is familiar with all aspects of the assigned bus route and assists substitute bus drivers.
10. Follows all established rules, guidelines, policies, procedures and practices of the Conway Public School District.
11. Follows the job-related instructions of the bus driver.

3. Possesses Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake, passenger, and school bus endorsements
4. Meets all federal, state, and local district requirements for the operation of a school bus
5. Passes background check and random drug testing
6. Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties
7. Ability to work with students of all backgrounds
8. Ability to carry out assigned route on time

Job Goal:
The Bus Driver will endeavor to transport students to and from school and other sites within designated route(s) and ensure the safety of the student passengers while in a school vehicle.  The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe operation of a school bus and for ensuring the safety of student passengers while meeting established bus schedules. The Bus Driver may be assigned to drive wheelchair busses.

Performance Responsibilities:
1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
2. Performs pre-trip inspections on bus and reports any mechanical, electrical, or safety issues to the Transportation Department. 
3. Drives a school transportation vehicle within a prescribed route(s) in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops safely.
4. Maintains a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times.
5. Obeys all traffic laws.
6. Ensures safety of all students.
7. Assists students with getting on and off the bus, when required.
8. Attends safety meetings.
9. Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy.
10. Performs periodical safety drills as required by law; completing necessary reports upon request.
11. Operates a two-way radio.
12. Other duties, as assigned.

2. Documented experience with diesel engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul.
3. Knowledge of tire inspection
4. Ability to inspect school buses to meet Arkansas state standards

Performance Responsibilities:
1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
2. Conducts routine inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs on other fleet vehicles. 
3. Performs maintenance and operation of equipment.
4. Prioritizes mechanical failures.
5. Inventories parts, tools, and equipment.
6. Maintains all shop areas.
7. Remain updated on safety regulations, recalls, and best practices in fleet maintenance. 
8. Keeps and maintains shop records and reports.
9. Available for transportation problems that may arise after normal working hours.
10. Other duties, as assigned.
