Job Overview:
As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities. Your primary goal will be to help your students achieve their full potential by creating a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, in accordance with state and federal regulations
• plan and deliver instruction that is tailored to the unique learning styles and needs of each student, using evidence-based practices and instructional strategies
• Collaborate with general education teachers and other support staff to ensure that students with disabilities have access to the general education curriculum and are included in all aspects of school life
• Collaborate with other teachers, parents, and support staff to coordinate services and ensure that your students are receiving all necessary accommodations and modifications.
• Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and social-emotional development.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to stay up-to-date on best practices in special education.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field
• Valid Georgia teaching certification with Special Education endorsement
• Embodies the core beliefs of the Colquitt County School District
• Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a school setting
• Knowledge of best practices in special education, including assessment, curriculum development, and behavior management
• Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employer is frequently required to sit for extended periods. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
